[F] [Eb] Hey everyone, [Cm] welcome back [F] to HD [Eb] piano.
This is Phil again.
[Cm] [F] Today we're gonna be looking at
[Eb] Sunday Morning by Maroon 5.
[Cm]
That's gonna sound something like this, [Dm]
[Em] [C]
[Dm] [Em] [C]
[Dm] [Em]
[C] [Dm]
[Em] [C] and so on.
Alright, so let's
start with the hard part first.
That's gonna be right hand.
Now, each one of these three chords
that we've got in the right hand is a four note chord, so it's gonna be a little bit more of a
stretch, but I think you can handle it.
So our [F] first chord looks like this.
F, A, C, and E.
Now,
when we add the left hand in, this is gonna be a D minor chord, but for now it looks kind of like
an F major 7 chord.
So F, A, C, E.
Alright, our next chord, we're gonna keep the same shape, but
our middle notes are gonna move down.
In other words, F and E stay the [Am] same, but these two are
moving down [G] to G and a B.
[Em]
So it's a little bit of a cluster [G] chord there.
[Em] F, G, B, E.
[F] Now, from here,
our outside notes are actually gonna move down while our middle notes stay the same.
So the F
and the E are actually gonna [G] move down to this E and this D, leaving our third [Em] chord looking like
this.
E, G, [G] B, and D.
So let's review.
[F] F, A, C, E.
We're skipping a white note every time.
Pretty
easy shape to remember.
[Em] Middle notes are moving down, so we've got a F, G, B, and E.
And then
finally, we're moving slightly more down to E, [G] G, B, D.
Again, skipping a white note [Em] every time.
[F] [Em]
[G] That's it.
[F]
[Em] [G]
Now, we're anticipating the next [N] beat of the next measure each time with these chords.
In other words, we're coming in a little earlier [F] than you'd think, and that sounds kind of like
this.
One, two, three, four, and two, [Em] three, four, and one, two, three, four, and one, two, three.
See that?
Call that coming in on the
and of four.
That's the half beat right before beat one.
Alright.
[F] And one, two, [Em] three, four, and one,
two, three, four, and one.
Like that.
Now, you may have noticed me doing some little decoration stuff
in the beginning after I hit this third chord.
Stuff like that.
Stuff to kill some time before
we go back [F] to our and one, two, three.
That chord.
[N]
Now, in the recording, they're doing something a
[C]
[F] little different each time.
So I'm going to give you a little liberty on this to add your own thing.
As long as it matches [Em] up with one of the notes that are in [G] one of those chords, you can [F] kind of
playreallyrea play anything you want as long as you get to that next chord and one, two, three, in time without coming in early or late. Okay? So, let's try that. And one, two, [Em] three, four, and one, two, three, four, and one, two, three. [F] And one, two, [Em] three, four, and one, two, [G] three, four, and one, two, three, four, [C] one, two, [F] three, four, and one, two, [Em] three. This time add your [G] own. And one, two, three, four. [F] One more time. Three, [Em] four, and one, two, three, four. [G] Good. That's the idea. Now, with our left hand, we're gonna add some roots, some bass notes. Our [D] first chord is a D minor chord, so we're gonna play a D in the bass. [G] Next up, a G, [C] and then we've got a C, alright, and that C gets two measures. [D] One, two, [G] three, four, and one, [C] two, three, four, and one, two, three, four. One, two, [D] three, four, and one, two, three, [G] four, and one, two, [C] three, four, and one. Just like that. And the left hand and the right hand, luckily, in this song, play at the same time. All the rhythms are the same. So let's put them together. One, [Dm] two, here we go, and one, two, [Em] three, four, and one, two, three, [C] four, and one, two, three, four. Decoration, [F] and one, two, [Em] three, four, and one, two, three, [C] four, and one, two, three, [Dm] fourand one, two, [Em] three, four, and one, two, [C] three, four, and one, two, three, four. See that? That's it. Let's try it a little faster now to get up to speed, and then you've got it. [Dm] One, two, three, four, and two, [Em] three, four, and [C] two, three, four, and [Dm] two, [Em] three, four, and two, [C] three, four, and two, three, four, one, two, [Dm] three, four, and two, [Em] three, four, and two, [C] three, four, and. You got it! Way to go. Don't forget to practice. Have fun while you practice. Come see me again. I'm [Eb] Phil. Thanks for watching HD Piano. [Dm]
