[C] [A] [C] [A]
[C] Hi,
[A]
[C] I'm the Birdland Steve and what I'd like to do today is take a few minutes and show
you how to play Cat Scratch Fever the correct way.
I believe it's the correct way.
It's as easy as ABC, the chords are actually ABC, but it's very, very rare that I actually
[B] see somebody really get it right.
So I'm going to try to go through that a little bit with you.
This is, for those of you who haven't seen it before, my Birdland, an actual Gibson Birdland,
and I was fortunate enough to get a few minutes with Ted Nugent backstage a few nights ago
and he put this signature on there for me and confirmed that this Birdland passed the
nudification requirements, so I'm pretty happy about that.
One thing that's missing most of the time when people try to play this song is they
don't get the slide action and they don't get a [F] lot of the A notes that I think are
in between that sort of fill and there's a lot of [N]
control that needs to be going on with
any guitar.
I always say the most important thing you can learn with taking your guitar skills to
the next level if you're a beginner is the muting skill.
It's using the palm of your hand right here, laying it on the strings, and on and off,
as needed to get you that control that you need.
Of course, Ted Nugent riffs are loaded with it.
So here when we look at Cat Scratch Fever, it's just a simple A and a B and a C.
It's not a full bar chord.
I [A] mean, a lot of people do play.
[C]
[A] [C]
And that's getting close, [Bb] but the slide in Cat Scratch [A] Fever is right here.
[C] [Ab] [B]
[C] [A] [C]
[A] [Db] Sloppy, but you get the point.
[A] I'm going to go even slower here for you and show you.
So you've got your bar in [E] here.
[A] Now Ted Nugent will use this finger.
It's a good habit to support this finger [Bb] by using your middle [A] finger.
[B] [C]
It really helps you squeeze those strings down because you're usually hitting two [N] or
three or four notes when you hold them down.
Ted can make this guitar sound like a real slide guitar without the slide, and I'm still
working on that too.
But in any event, so Cat [A] Scratch Fever is going to be here,
[Bb] and then you're going to
do your [B] B and [C]
the A in [A] there.
[Am] [C] Get the A in there [A] and the slide.
[C] [A] [Am]
[B] [A]
[G] [A] [C]
[B] [C]
So it's the [A] A's in between every one.
[A] [C] [Bm]
[C] [A]
[Bm] [C] [B] [A]
I'm going to play it at normal speed for you again so you can see how that goes together.

[C]
[A] [N] Well, I hope this helps you just a little bit.
I'm going to be doing a few more videos where we work out some other sequences to Cat Scratch Fever.
We'll get into the verse line and on to the lead and take it through the end of the song.
So I hope you keep an eye out for those, and I appreciate you watching.
