Hey, what's up you [Bb] guys?
Marty [B] Schwartz here, and I'm going to teach [A] you a really cool finger-picking intro [D] to this [F] song.
[B] A little [Eb] note, the original recording is [F] on a 12-string guitar, so it's got that [C] jingle jangle [D] sound.
We're [C] just going to do it on the [Db] old regular [E] guitar here.
But it sounds fancier than it [Bb] is [E] difficult, and [C] that's always really fun.
Those are like, you know, [Bb] the funnest ones to do.
[Ab] [Gb] So we'll zoom in and I'll [B] break it down for [A] you.
Also real quick, please subscribe to this YouTube channel [C] of mine.
I really appreciate [F] that.
And you can leave [A] comments, like the video, all [Bb] that kind of support is [Dm] what I really
really appreciate the most.
[B] So thanks for hanging [A] out with me.
Let's zoom in and break this down right now.
[Ab] Here we go.
Alright, so this revolves, the opening licks here, we're going to finger [Eb]-pick them.
And they revolve around D minor, so we're going to have this open D string [D] right here
going [F] through the whole finger-picking set [Cm] of licks.
What I want to do is there's really just two shapes involved, so I think the [F] best thing
to do is show you the [D] shapes first, then we'll [Db] do the picking pattern.
[Eb] So here's the first shape.
[Dm]
[A] Oh, and also the original recording is a 12-string, [C] so that's what you're hearing that [E] sounds different.
12-string really [C] jingles and jangles, so [Eb] that would make it even more authentic [Bb] if you had
a 12-string, which I don't have.
Maybe I should get one.
[F] So it would be 14th fret on [A] the G string, and then I'm covering [D]
the, I mean you can
actually cover the top three strings with your index, but we've got to cover, we're
not going to be [A] playing the B string at all, but I'm just barring it down on the [Bb] 13th fret
of the B [Cm] and the high E, even the G just for strength because we're [F] going to go.
[Dm]
[D]
[G] [Dm]
[G]
[F] [E]
So that first [Dm] one is [Db] that.
[Gb] Then we cover the [B] 12th fret of [Eb] the G, B, and high [Em] E, and as we practice you can [C] pluck with
your thumb and middle finger or thumb and ring finger, [A] I'm using middle finger, [C] pluck
the G and high E and avoid the B.
So we have this one, [Bm]
then [Eb] covering 12th fret, [C]
and we
move that down [G] a whole step and it's the same thing.
So now it's the 10th fret, then we move [Eb] it down another whole [D] step, but we add our middle
finger again [Ab] like we did for the first [Bb] shape, and the middle finger is [Eb] on the G string 9th fret.
[Am]
So, so far, [E] 14 and 13, [F] [Eb] 12, 10, [Bb]
then 9 [Eb] and [C] 8, then we go back to the other [Bbm] shape on the
5th fret, we cover the 5th fret of the G, B, [F] and high E, then we move that down to [C] the
3rd fret [Db] and we add our middle finger to the 4th fret of the [C] G.
So we've only used two shapes for the whole thing.
This shape [Eb] is what we used on the [F] first one.
[G] [F]
[G]
[F] [Gb] And so when [C] we're middle finger [F] on the 4th fret and we're covering the 3rd fret of [C] the
high E, [Em] [F]
[Gb] we play [E] that and then we just scoot it down a whole step to where we're on [Db] the
2nd fret [D]
and the [F] 1st fret here.
[G] [F]
[Dm]
[G] [F]
[Em] [F]
[E] Alright so now let's pick them.
Thumb's [G] going to be [Em] continuing to [D] hit the open D [Eb] string, and then I'm [D] going to use my
pointer finger [Bb] on the G string, [D] and then I'm going to use my middle finger on the high
E, and we never play the B string.
So we just go back and forth, open D, G, high E, [Dm] back to G.
[C] And we do that for the whole thing [G] until the end.
[F] So check it [Dm] out.
[G] [Dm]
[G]
[F]
[Dm] [G] [Dm]
[G]
[Dm]
[G]
[Dm]
[G]
[F] [A]
I [D]
[Dm]
[G] would switch to a pick at that point, but it's [N] [C]-0-3 [B] on the A string,-0-3, then the open D, [D] then 3 [F] on the D, [D] open. And [Dm] [D] then you form a D chord, but with the open E ringing [E] out. [A] [D]
[Dm] [D]
[Dm]
[N] [Eb] 14 and 13, [Dm] [G] 12, [Dm] 10, [D] 9 and 8, [Dm] 5, 4 and [D] 3, [G] then slide it back. [F] [A] [C] [Dm]
[D] [Dm]
[D] [Dm]
[E] Cool that's it. So be sure to look for [Gb] the lesson [D] on [C] the song portion, [G] and [Cm] hope that helped. Alright there was the [Eb] lesson. Thanks [C] so much [D] for hanging out. I [Eb] really appreciate the support. Also [C] thank you for [B] [C] subscribing to this YouTube [D] channel [Eb] of mine. And [Cm] if there's a song you'd like to learn, or [E] a lesson you'd like to [A] see, [B] go ahead and like [Bb] this video [B] and leave it in the comments below and I'll check it out. [Bb] Also just thanks again for [D] all the support. I [F] really appreciate [E] it, and I can't [D] wait to see you again real [Ab] soon. So take care and see you later.
