What's up guys, Brandon Slavinski here and this is your tutorial video for Green Day's
Wake Me Up when September ends.
When I was growing up I bought the Dookie album if you guys have ever heard that and
if you haven't then you should pick it up.
It was like Green Day's awesome, like one of their first albums.
I think it was like their second, it was Nimrod first right?
So anyway guys, let's learn the song.
Let's start it off.
We're going to do this part that's pretty awesome.
It's not really a chord based situation but it's a picking based situation.
What we're going to do is we're going to go down [G] to the D string and put our ring finger
on the fifth fret and then we're going to skip that and leave a zero on that G.
So leave it open.
And then on the B we're going to put our index finger on the third fret.
So that gives us that intro part.
So we just go down a half step on that.
Then we go down to four.
[Em] And then we go down [G] to two.
Open.
So one more time.
So I'm just doing down strokes right?
Then we're middle finger.
Then we do [E] a switch, [G] index finger.
And then open.
One more time.
So that's the part right [Gm] there.
And then what I'm going to say to do is I'm [C] going to say do a full barre chord instead
of trying to do a C.
So we do a C.
It's going to be mute, three, five, five, five.
And all down strokes are going to go to [Cm] a C minor.
And to do [C] that it's going to be mute, three, [Cm]
five, five, four, three.
[C] So
[Cm] [G] and then right back.
So summer has come and passed.
The innocent have never last.
[C] Wake me up [Cm] when September [G] ends.
You [C] just repeat that right?
So that's going to be your verse.
Into kind of a chorus-y type thing.
Then after that there's this other part.
And it's going to go, so wake me [Cm] up when [G] September ends.
You're going to do a G.
This is [C] into that bridge [C#] [G]-esque part.
So to do that G it's going to be three, two, zero, zero, three, three.
And then you're going to go [D] down.
[G] I mean I [D] do like an F sharp over D.
[G] [D] And to do [F#] that you're going to use your thumb
and it's going to be on the second fret.
That's that F sharp.
[D] You're going to mute.
And then it's going to be zero, two, three.
[C] So it's wake me up [Cm]
when September [G] ends.
[D] [Em] And then we go to an E minor.
Or an E minor seven.
And that's [E] going to be zero, two, two, [Em]
zero, three, three.
Here comes [Bm] the rain again.
To a B minor.
It's going to be mute, two, four, four, three, two.
[Em]
So here comes [Bm] the rain again.
[C] To a C, which we know.
Falling, or well this is just a standard C.
So let's just teach that real quick.
It's going to be mute, three, two, zero, one, zero.
Falling [G] from the [D] stars.
Okay [G] so that G [D] to that F sharp over D.
[Em]
Drenched by [Bm] my pain again.
To that [C] B minor again.
Becoming who [D] we are.
So we're going to do a D there.
[A] Mute, zero, zero, [D] two, three, two.
And then everything else is [A] repeat.
So let's kind of just go through that part one [Em] more time.
Here comes, that's an E minor.
So E minor to [Bm] the B minor.
[C]
C, [G] G, [D] down to half.
[Em]
E minor, [Bm] E minor, [C]
C, [D] D.
[A] And then right [G] back to the bar.
That right there.
[C] [Cm] [G]
[D] [Em]
E minor, [Bm] E minor, D minor, [C]
C, [G] G, [D] down to [Em] half.
E minor, [Bm] E minor, [C] C, [D] D.
[N] And that's all you need to know for Green Day's Wake Me Up.
So learn the chords, learn the progressions, and we will see you in the practice video.
Peace.
