Hey, hello all.
[G] Welcome to, this is a chord explanation for that Little Feet song called
Willin'.
If you're watching this you already know what a genius Lowell George was, and
what a waste it is that he died so young, but in his short time around he left some
really cool stuff.
The intro chords are the same as the verse chords, but we'll walk through
the whole thing in order and it'll be [A] fairly self explanatory I hope.
[Gm]
It [G] starts off, it's
in G in standard tuning.
Lowell worked a lot in open G and sometimes open A, which is the
same, just tuned up a little bit, but this one's in [Em] standard tuning.
And it [G] starts in
sort of an octave G up here.
So really for when you're doing these chords,
[C] [G] you're only
playing these four middle strings, you're not [Em] playing the two [G] E strings on the top and
the bottom.
So for strumming you're just kind of muting those, in fact I mute the two E
strings, [Em] the bottom E is muted with my thumb and the top E is muted [G] with my pinky, which
is also fretting this other one.
So you can do a full strum like that and not get the
ringing of either of the E strings.
So they're just [A#m] muted like that.
So it starts in, you
want to put your [B] pinky on the B string in the twelfth fret, [Em]
[B] and then two frets [D#] down
from it, your [Em] pointer finger goes on the A string in the tenth fret, so it'll [A] look like
[Am] that, [G] with a blank fret in between.
So it starts, and the second chord is almost identical
except the [Gm] pointer finger only goes down one fret, so that's on the [F#] A string here, [A]
[G] what
and your pinky finger stays on, they both stay on the same strings, but it goes from
the twelfth and the tenth fret to [F#m] the ninth, [A] [C#] or [G#] the twelfth, [F#m] nine and ten.
[G] So you go [F#m]
[Em] with
no space, [A#m] no fret, open fret between them, [G]
and then slide that whole fingering position
down two [Em] frets.
Same thing again with no space in between them.
So, [G] so far we got,
[Em]
[G] then it
goes down another, it slides down again, but then it's back to the same fingering as
the original one, with a blank fret in between them, so we'll get to that.
[A]
[Em] [G]
So on [E] that one,
your pointer finger has moved down two frets, [B] and your pinky [Em] has only moved down one.
[G] Okay,
so then move it all down again two frets, with a blank [C] space in between.
[G] So we got those
[C]
two, [G] and then G, [C] C, [G] then slide that up to D, even with the open G string [C] ringing.
[G] So
the ending goes, and when I go up on that [C] slide up, [G]
I'm still, I'm muting that E string,
both E strings again, so you're only getting those, you're getting that D chord with an
open G in it without the E strings ringing on, I guess, [A#]
[Am] I suppose you could [G] cover that
G up here, but I just mute it.
So that's the intro, and [C]
[G] [C] [G] [C]
[G] then he goes into the,
I've been [C] from the song, C [D] to D, I can feel it all night, back [G] to G.
Then it does a climb up like
this, G, every kind of [Am] rig, [G] all you're covering is that, which is another way of playing a G,
except take both the E's off.
So it's, every kind of rig that's ever been [C] seen me,
driven by a drone.
[D] And then, if you give me, and then it [C] goes to C, and then walk down that same
walk up that you just did.
[G] That C to that G, [Am] [G]
[D]
[C] [G] I'll be with it, like that.
[C] [G] And then it starts again,
for that piano [D] solo, and [G] that's the whole song.
[C] [G]
[C] [G] [C]
[G] That's everything.
