_ Hey Guitar Folks, I've had a request for Prince
I Wanna Be Your Lover, classic track off Dirty Mind _
and well it's very funky and
_ if you've got two guitars then there's one
little lick that runs throughout the intro
it's octaves on the F sharp [Bm] erm
_ _ _ so we've just got on a straight four _ _ _ _
[Gb] _ _ _ _ _ [Bb] ok and then so
_ [Abm] that's guitar one essentially and then
guitar two is _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [B] _ _ _ _
[E] _ _ [B] _ _ _ _ _
ok so what I'm just playing is
[Abm] _ _ _
[Ab] first chord is 6 [B] G sharp _ [Eb] B flat _ [B] erm [A] _ and then
erm what I'm [Gbm] gonna do is I'm gonna
I [Eb] could play a 4 [B] slightly easier
_ _ because I'm playing over basically a B chord
_ _ I [Ebm] could actually have an [G] F sharp on top of my little finger
which I tend to play to get that
because if I'm just playing guitar by myself [Gbm] I keep that kind [Abm] of
that F sharp note in so we could either do
_ ok _ _ [B] _ _ _
_ so it's just
[Abm] _ so it's just all this shape and
6 4 6
_ _ [Gb] _ _ [Abm] _ 6 6 4
_ with _ _ _ _ _
[B] _ some [Ab] little
little hammers [Gb] or
_ [B] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ getting that note on top
_ which kind of if you've just got one guitar
_ it's _ kind of adding that
so what I also do if I've [Gbm] just got one guitar is I try and _
keep [Em] that going a little bit on top so you [B] see erm _
and _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [Abm] _ _ _
_ then we've got that little muted _
6 4 [A] 6 4 G sharp
_ _ F sharp G sharp F sharp
[Gb] _
_ [Abm] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[B] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [Gb] _ _ [Em] or you could [B] also play it up here _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ which is _ _ _
_ 11 12 [Ab] 14 _ then 13
so _ _ _
[E] _ _ 13 12
_ [D] _
_ 14
and [Abm] 11 12 so you just
it's just exactly the same but an octave higher and _ _ _ [Bm] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [Fm] _
[Gb] _ _ [G] then put that [B] on the end
[Gb]
up here and _ [Bbm] _ _
that
is basically the whole verse section
so what I'm doing if I'm playing it [Ab] for the entire verse
I'll often play the intro up here
_ like _ _ _ _
[B] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ that and then when the singing comes
_ play _ _ _ _ it a bit softer, [Abm] play it an octave lower
so it sits under the vocal ok
and then we've got the sort of bridge chords what's that?
_ E major 7 _ _
[E] so 7 [Abm] 9 8 _ _
9 7 bar _ _ _
_ [Ebm] 6 8 7
so _ _ that's a D [Eb] sharp minor 7 _ _ _
6 8 6 7 [Gb] 6
D sharp minor 7
it's only been a fair day [B] to see
so [Gb] that's an F sharp bar chord
_ 2 4 4 3 2 2 _
[Abm] _ and then to a [G] G _ [Abm] sharp
minor 7 so 4 6
4 4 4 4 all the way across _ so
da _ [Ebm] _ _ _ _ [Gb] da da da [Abm] da da da
let me on
_ _ _ _ [B] _ ok _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [N]
so _ great song
great song and then over the
instrumental bit towards the [B] end
_ _ _ ok _ [Abm] so the instrumental just goes
_ it's just a jam, it's just a [B] kind of
groove on a G sharp minor 7
_ so _ _ _ [G] you can put all that kind of [Abm] now lodges
_ [B] so _ [Ebm] _
_ _ _ [Em] I'm just using the blues scale there
[Ebm] _ _ _ 4 6 4
6 4 _ _ _ _ _
_ [Abm] _ _ _ maybe a bit of that
so _ _ _ [Eb] _ [Abm] _ _
you're kind of just jamming
making some cool rhythms up there
_ [Gb] now there's a keyboard solo but if you want to add that
you might as well, you might want to play it on guitar _ _
_ [Ab] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[G] _ [Ab] _ _ _ _ _ [Bb] _ _
_ _ [Abm] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [D] _ [Bb] _ [Abm] _ _ _ _ _
[C] _ ok so that's nice so it's just C [Gbm] sharp
_ [Gm] _
then to a B flat or A sharp I should probably say [Bb] _ sliding
_ [Bbm] so sliding so _ 14
_ 11 _ _ with a little slide
_ [Db] then _ _
[Abm] _ _ G sharp of [Gb] the 13th
[Ab] _ _ _ _ [C] _ [Db] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [Em] and then I do some little trill as well
[Gm] _ [Abm] so _ _
_ _ [Gm] _ _ _ _ _
11 [Bb] 12
_ [Eb] _ _ _ _ _
_ [Dbm] _ _ _ [B] [Bb] so _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
F sharp G [Ab] sharp
_ 11 13 [Eb] B
_ _ [Abm] _ _ _ _
_ _ F _ _ sharp [Ab] G sharp G [Abm] sharp
11 on the A string
[G] _
[Bb] _ _ _ _ [B] _ _ _ _
[E] _ [D] _ _ [Ab] _ _ _ and
_ _ [Bbm] _ _ [B] _ _ _ _
_ _ [Bb] _ _ _ [B] _ _ _
_ _ [Bb] _ _ [Bm] _ _ _ _
[Ab] _ _ [B] _ _ [N] _ _ that's it, that's I Want To Be Your Lover so enjoy _ _
