[Bb] [Fm]
What you got to know in [Bbm] life and what you got to do is you got to have?
[Bb] Respect for the truth, and you've got to honor [Ab] you really have to to honor the truth
[Bbm]
Our son was born in that psychedelic age, and we didn't [Ebm] you're missing a lot of years a lot of [Fm] time is going by
And you can't really [Bbm] capture that you know when they grow up, and they become different people [Ab] and you can't
You either live it.
You know you either
Participate [Bbm] and live it with them or you don't but you can't get that time back again
[Ebm] [Fm]
[Bbm] We had a good marriage at the time and we were very fond of each other, [Ab] but by the time we got married we were diverging
[Bbm] Musically I was very heavily into the country folk thing
And it was [Gb] just starting and I put together this band called great speckle bird and so he came [Ebm] along and she she liked it
But she wasn't as emotionally committed to it as I was
The country [Fm] folk thing and established itself enough that the television [Db] people were saying you know maybe [Eb] this is a series
Maybe we can do a musical series of real
Eclectic and have [Db] the country guys on and the rockers on and the focus on it
[A] That's exactly what they did and they said do you want to host it?
I said [B] yeah, okay?
I'll try it
[E] When I die let me go
That
when I die I
Want to go naturally
[A] [E] Because I travel this world as a free man
follows miles
[A]
So [E] let them put those goddamn [Gb] tubes right now
[E]
[Em] [A] [Db]
Something like that yeah, [Cm] that's good remember when you had the TV show we used to sometimes play duets like did we yeah?
Yeah, well that was my initiation.
[D] I mean that what an incredible thing
[N] Yeah, I get a job doing that playing guitar, and I learned so much well you had to learn
I mean you you got thrown in off the end of the deep end of the pool
And you had to I remember you woodshedding though on the road when you first came on the road with us
You were you were very polite you would in the morning.
You would take your guitar into the can that's right
And and practice in the can for about two hours
It ran for five years and got big big big
But after four years I could see you know it was kind of a trap
You know they had a formula for me was successful
And you know they'd want you to hang around until they get tired of you, and then they kick you out
So I thought well I know I'll beat him to the punch
I'll walk and they were they were pissed they were pissed when I walked, but but it was the right thing to do
You know I had to I had to move on
