[C#] Hello, very happy to be here today to play for Forest Feet.
This is my good friend Greg Lease on the pedal steel guitar.
This is a very old song, a song that came out on my first album, but it's older than that.
About a house I used to live in, I grew up in, a house I grew up in,
that I used to go back and [G#] visit after we'd moved away from there,
and I'd go back there and drop in on the tenants, whoever it was that was living there.
I was pretty sure that I was supposed to be living there.
But I'm not sure what this has to do with the forest,
except house is a metaphor for our lives and for the planet, really,
for the world we care for and that we want to protect.
[C#]
This is called Looking Into You.
[F#]
[C#]
[A#m] [G#]
[F#]
[C#] [G#]
[F#]
[C#] [G#]
[B] [F#]
[C#] [F#]
[C#]
Well I looked into a house I [F#] once lived in, [C#] around the time I first went on [A#m] my own.
[C#] When the [G#] roads were [F#] as many as the places I had [C#] dreamed of, [G#] and my friends and [F#] I were one.
[C#] Now the distance is [G#] done,
[B] the search has [F#] begun, [C#] I've come to see [F#] where my beginnings have [C#] gone.
[G#]
[C#] Well the walls and the windows were [F#] still standing, [C#] and the music could be heard at [A#m] the door.
[C#] Well the people [F#] who kindly endured my [C#] odd questions, [G#] asked if I had come [F#] very far.
[C#] And when my silence [G#] replied, [B]
they took me [F#] inside, [C#] where the children sat [F#] playing on the [C#] floor.
[F#] Well we spoke of [C#] the changes [F#] that would find us [C#] farther on, [F#] and it left me [C#] so warm and so [G#]
high.
But as [F#] I stepped back [C#] outside to the [F#] gray [C#] morning sun, I heard [Fm] that highway [A#m] whisper [D#m] inside.
Are [F#] you ready to fly?
[C#] And I looked into the face of the [F#] road passing by.
[C#] It's an ocean that will never [A#m] be filled, and [G#] the house it [F#] grows older and finally [C#] crumbles,
[G#] that even love cannot [F#] rebuild.
[C#] It's a hotel [G#] at best, [B] you're here as a [F#] guest, you [C#] ought to make yourself at home.
[G#] While you're waiting for the red earth, [F#] and I look to the dream of [C#] the millions.
[F#]
One day the search will be [C#]
true, [A#m]
here I stand at the [Fm] edge of my embattled [D#m] illusions.
[F#] Looking into you.
[G#] [C#]
[F#]
[C#]

[A#] [G#] [F#]
[C#]
[G#] [F#]
[C#]
[G#] [B]
[F#] [C#]
[G#]
[C#] The great song traveler [F#]
passed through here, [C#] and he opened my eyes to [A#m] the view.
[C#] [G#] And I was [F#]
among those who called [C#] him the prophet, [G#] and I asked him what [F#] was true.
[C#] Until the distance [G#] had shown, [B] how the [F#] road remains alone.
[C#] Now I'm looking in my [F#] [C#] life [G#] for a truth that is my own.
[F#] And I looked into the sky for [C#] my anthem, [F#] and the words and the music [C#] came through.
[A#m]
But words and music [D#] will [Fm] never touch the beauty that [D#m] I've seen.
Looking into [F#]
you, [G#] [C#] and that's true.
