[C] Welcome back to the Texas music scene.
It's time for Jack Ingram to feature a special full acoustic performance from his songwriter series
[D] Well what you got for us now, [Dm] mr.
Jack Ingram
[D]
Welcome folks to my songwriter series.
We're thrilled to feature.
Mr.
[A] Jason E this time
[D] This Jackson, Mississippi native has put [F#m] in several years of [D] honing his craft as a storyteller
Intrubutor right here in Texas fact great Kevin Welch has produced four of [G] Jason's albums [A] including and his latest [D] here
Is Jason Headey?
[Em] That's why I left Atlanta.
I was part of [A] this songwriting group
[Em]
We all got together and decided that we were gonna turn a song in [A] every week one [F#m] week
We decided to give ourselves [E] a [D] challenge
And and it was the week of that big snowstorm in [Bm] Atlanta where everybody got stuck on the highway
The [G] challenge was we had to write about something about [A] getting out of Atlanta
It's [D] one of those songs that I wrote that I didn't [Em] realize [D] was as personal when I wrote it and it happens a lot
You know with songs I think [B] sometimes you know, they're about you and [G] you know that they're personal and [A] that's very obvious when you mean
To [D] do that, but but sometimes they'll sneak up on you and this was one of [G]
those
Heading west on 20
Just past Birmingham
Not sure where I'm going.
I [D] just can't turn [G] back again
And I got headlights on the highway.
I got a heart
That's a way back home
[D] And a picture of life I [C] lost to [G] remind me why I'm gone
And [C] that's [D] why
I
[G] left Atlanta
Drove
[C] away [D] in an early [G] morning
Yes, [C] that's why
[D] I [Em] left Atlanta
[C]
Me [G] and Georgia [D] seen our better [G] days
Settled outside the city bought a house and a little land
Built our hopes on dreaming to [D] those dreams [G] got out of hand
Well, I was after something I
Could never be [D] I guess you finally grew to [G] tie
[C] [G] Waiting around on me and [C]
that's why
[D]
[G] And Atlanta
[C] drove [D] away and I heard
[G]
Yes, [C] that's why
[D] left [E] Atlanta
[G] [C]
[G] Me and Georgia [D] seen our [G] better day.
[Em] I
Wish you could have held on [G] a little [D] longer.
I
[Em] Wish I could have been a little [D] stronger
[G] [D]
[G] God knows things don't always
Work out like we plan
Well, I could tell you my story.
I [D] just don't know how [G] it ends
So I'll keep right on driving till I run out of gas
[D] Start again where I end [C] up ain't no [D] use in [G] looking back
And [C] that's why
[D] left [G] Atlanta
drove [C] [D] away
[G] Yes, [C] that's why
[D] left [Em] Atlanta
[C] Me [G] and Georgia [D] seen our [G] better day
Me
[C] and Georgia [D] seen our [G] better day
