What do I think of Living Thing?
I think it's good, you know, it's one of many that
from that period, you know, that I wrote so many so quickly in that ELO period
of about from about 74 to you know through about 78 and it was like a
conveyor belt really, you know, I was just banging them out, you know, really quickly
and I'm very pleased with this one because I like the chords and I think
the chords are really interesting because they go, there's one chord change
that makes the whole song, that makes it work and if I hadn't found that it would
never been a song.
I was looking for that for quite a while as you [Gbm] can imagine
[G] because once [Fm] you're stuck in the F minor there, where do you go?
You can either go
back to C or you can go back to G which is the obvious thing but then [Em] suddenly
it came to where the G minor and then keep going down and [Dm] then down again
[Em] you took me
[F] yeah [G] [C]
[G] so it's the way it sort of develops back to the C, I was really
chuffed with that bit because that meant the song was gonna work you know and it
was a catchy thing.
I'll never forget, I was staying at my mum and dad's house for a few days
having a break, I was in bed [G] fast asleep one morning and I was woken up in this
enormously loud living thing, my dad he whipped it up real loud like he was
pleased you know that it was on and he was waking me up with this one
he was going you [C] know
[G]
[C]
[Am]
[Ab]
[G] [Fm]
[Em]
[Dm]
[Em] [Dm]
[Em] [F]
[G] [C] [A]
[F] [Dm]
[Eb] [C] I like that it goes [B] and that was another naughty bit there going so after you've [C] gone
[Am] [F] [Dm]
[Eb] [C] which was the [D] unusual bit you know [Eb] because going to the augmented there [E] I
hadn't heard that done [Dm] before from that minor there, the new [Eb] minor to the G augmented
[Bb]
[N] and so that was I was thrilled with that you know well I got a new chord
change that I've never heard before and also I mean that's your basic chords
that go [C] it's two relative minors in one swoop so you're going like
[A]
[Ab] A flat and another relative minor in a different key, [Fm] G key, [Em] it was good and that won the day because I've got nowhere to go after that so as soon as I found the new minor it was a real treat and I'd get it then and once you [F] got back into the air
[G] [C] you [Am] can live in [A] [F] a [Dm]
[Eb] cellar by [C] a painting, [G] that's all it is really, it's very
I think it's good, you know, it's one of many that
