Thanks for stopping by today.
I'm Jim Hoovey and I'm going to demonstrate how to play the Lido Shuffle, the great song by Boz Skaggs, which Jeff Piccaro played on in around 1976 or 77, something like that.
So I'm going to play the groove and then I'm going to break it down and really slow it down so you can really hear what's going on between the bass drum and the snare drum.
It's not a standard shuffle, but you'll hear that in a second.
The Lido Shuffle.
[D]
[Gm]
[C#]
So that's basically the groove for the Lido Shuffle.
I'm not going to play the whole song nor play along with it.
Other people have done that on YouTube, so you can check those out too.
But I really want to talk about that snare drum.
What's going on there?
We've got
The bass drum.
Boom boom cha, boom boom boom cha, boom boom ka do ka ka, do do ba do ba ba.
That's how it really is.
If you practice this groove super super slowly, you will develop muscle memory and you will be able to really get the feel for this mechanically.
What limbs are falling together and which ones are playing separately and how they flow together.
And that's the only way to really do it.
Practice it super slowly.
It took me quite a while to get this down, but that's how I did it.
Develop that muscle memory.
Practice it super slowly for 15-25 minutes, 30 minutes or more at a time.
And you'll be amazed at what you can do.
So let me
I'll start this off a little bit medium tempo and then I'll really slow it down for you so you can very clearly hear what's going on with all the bass drum, snare drum and hi-hat.
[Gm]
[D]
[N]
So that's really how you break it down.
Boom boom, boom boom boom on the bass drum and do ka do ka ka do do ka do ka ka on the snare drum.
And the hi-hat just shuffling away.
Cha cha cha cha cha cha cha cha.
So thanks for stopping by and talking about the Lido Shuffle today.
We'll see you later.
Thanks much.
