[D] I used to [D] live in a room full [A] of mirrors.
[D] All I could see [A] was me.
He called me, [Bm] [A] and he wanted me to play with him for,
[Dm] [G] [A] I [N] guess probably for the camaraderie that we had in the early years,
because Jimmy and I played together in bands from 1961 up to about maybe early 65.
He said, but would I come as a friend to help him out?
He said, he'd take care of me.
It was a while before I was accepted.
A lot of guys would say, well, it's Jimmy's bass player.
I was, oh, it's Jimmy's bass player.
Jimmy obviously felt loyalty and felt better with a friend around him,
but if he wasn't a good enough bass player,
Jimmy would have found a way to get around it, you know,
or found somebody to get away around for him.
So I think it was probably the best of both worlds for Jimmy at that point.
At that time, Mitch was in England.
Buddy was at Frequent The Studios with us,
and Buddy decided the same thing, let's help our friend in need.
I mean, we were doing sessions together, and that was four months,
so you might as well really, when it comes down to it, we were really grouping men.
Ultimately, we became the band of gypsies.
[Cm] [G] Phil Moore is proud to welcome back some old [Ab] friends with a brand new name,
a [Gb] band of [Cm] gypsies.

[F] [Eb] [Gb] band of gypsies [N] and The Experience were almost like two completely
musically divergent bands, pointing in completely opposite directions.
There was the experimentality, if you will,
if you can use that word, of The Experience,
and then there was the funkiness and the earthiness of the band of gypsies.
Two different directions.
[F] It was still [D] Jimmy to me, [N] so it was the same, but yet it was different.
It was having an all-black band, and it had a little more funk.
[Abm] [Bb] I could see sort of a little bit more connection between all [Am] the guys,
I think [F] because it was a little bit more laid back and it was more Jimmy's thing
than it was where he went to [Bb] England and everybody put his band together for [C] him
and presented him as such.
At that point, with [N] the band of gypsies, it was more established and played
