We're so proud to [B] welcome back some very old friends with a brand new name.

It's my love.
I think in 1969, Jimmy was evolving [E]
from the tail end of [Gbm] the original experience into this [Dbm] new era.
It's my [A] love.
[Gb] Jimmy Hendrick, Buddy Miles, and Billy Cobb.
We got [B] together and we all were about the same age, had a lot of the same [N] influences.
We rehearsed at Baggies to get this group together and get tight.
Say after three days we were tight, after three rehearsals we were tight, but we went on [Bb] and rehearsed a little bit more.
[N] I went down to [G] Baggies to hear the rehearsals [Ebm] and stuff and I thought, [Ab] this is just incredible [Ebm] stuff.
Having Billy and [Ab] Buddy as [Ebm]
backup men, [Abm] I mean the most amazing rhythm section.
To
[B] hear this new [E] material, for [Bb] me, was just like a [Bb] revelation.
Here was [Ab] a rhythm section that just was so solid.
Having had the great privilege of recording Jimmy's first three [Bb] albums and having them [Db] absolutely emblazoned in my memory banks,
and I think in the public's memory [Gbm] banks, [Ab] to be confronted with this new [Ebm] direction was kind of shocking actually, [Eb] but a [Ab] natural progression.
When I heard this music for the first time I was so knocked out by some of the primal elements, which was [Bb] Buddy and Billy were just amazing.
They were able to lock into a groove [Ab] for hours at [Bbm] an end.
[Ab]
[Bb] It really [Fm] rocked me.
It really did.
This was [Gb] Jimmy's new direction.
He had mentioned at Woodstock, oh we're just a band of [Bbm] gypsies, and you could get a sense [Ebm] from [B]
Woodstock [Ab] that this was very [G] fresh, very new, a left turn for Jimmy.
For me it was inspiring and fresh and new.
I mean here he had this funky R&B flavored rhythm section and it just gave him a little bit more freedom to do some [Ab] of the stuff from his roots.
[Eb]
Having seen Jimmy's performance at [Ab] Woodstock and [Ebm] heard what he was trying to [Db] do with the new band, the new direction,
I knew something was [Bm] coming down the pipe that was going to [Ab] be pretty, [Ebm] pretty amazing.
[Ab] [Ebm] That was a transition.
[Db] That was a crossroads.
That was the point where Jimmy said, okay, I'm done [Eb] with the experience.
That's over.
Here is this.
[Gb] What it came down to in the end was Billy Cox, [Ab] Buddy Miles, Jimmy Hendrix performing at [B] that peak point in the year, December 31st going into [Db] January 1st of 70.
That was it.
[Eb] What a magical time to show the world this [Gb] is a brand new part of Jimmy's direction.
[Ab] Band of Gypsies, December 31st, 1969.
Man, [B] the power of this thing.
It's a phenomenal first show.
