_ [Eb] Hi, my name is Joe Bonamasso and welcome to Lick Library.
And we're going to go through my setup right now.
This is my European _ set of gear.
I know I'm very lucky.
I have two identical sets of gear.
This happens to be the one that runs at 220.
I used to bring the rig back and forth, but it used to cost so much money to bring it
back on the boat that I was tempted to buy a whole other set.
So we ended up getting a whole other set.
And thank you, Category 5 and Peter Van Vilden and Marshall and 2 Rock for hooking me up
on that [N] account.
And EV Speakers, by the way, too.
I think I've covered everybody.
_ We're going to take this gold top and just kind of demonstrate a little bit about what I do.
The first amp we're going to demonstrate is basically the Van Vilden and the Silver Jubilee.
And that kind of_
The Van Vilden is pretty much a 100 watt overdrive special copy that Peter builds.
It's just absolutely a phenomenal amp.
It very much set like in the traditional Robin Ford vein.
You know, the ratio and level set like this.
And it kind of sounds a bit like this.
[Gm] So it _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [Dm] _ _ _
_ [G] _ _ _ [Gm] _ _ _ _
_ [A] _ [E] _ _ _ [D] _ _ _
_ [G] _ _ _ _ [E] _ _ _
_ kind of has a big [N] fender sound to it.
A bit of reverb courtesy of a Boss Reverb pedal, which I like.
It goes through the effects loop of the Van Vilden.
I really [Em] like it.
It's very articulate.
You hear all the notes.
_ [D] _ [A] _ _ It's very important when you play a chord, when you rake the pick across the string.
_ [F] _
[Cm] _ _ [G] _ [D] _ _ [G] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [A] _ _ _ The _ _ _ _ _ [D] _ _ [Em] _
_ _ [A] _ _ _ [Em] good thing about having that kind of [N] articulation is that everybody hears every note you play.
The bad thing is when you play bad ones, they are also magnified.
So _ again_
[G] The next amp I'm going to demonstrate is the 2 Rock, which is basically another [E]
Dumble based circuit.
It's not really [N] a Dumble.
I don't know what they call it, but it makes a thud. _
A _ [Eb] ringing endorsement for them.
But again, it's a [Ab] 6L6 based amp, which I like.
Again, it gives it a bit of articulation, but it also _ [N] does the higher gain thing better
than like an overdrive special.
So it sounds a bit like this.
And then Cavalier Dampener, this is a bit like Eric Johnson's.
[Am] _ [D] _ _ [A] _ _ [G] _ _ [D] _
[A] _ _ [E] _ _ _ _ [D] _ _
[G] _ [A] _ _ _ _ _ [G] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [A] _ [D] _
_ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [Am] _ _ [E] _ _ [G] _ [D] _
[A] _ _ [Em] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [Am] _ _ _ _ _ And with the [Em] delay on the Marshall, it sounds really good.
I like this amp a lot.
[N] It works very well for the solo tone.
And it just gives you that big kind of [D]
round_
[A] _ [E] _ _ [B] _ _ _ [Em] _
_ [Am] _ _ [E] _ _ Has a nice sparkle to it.
[Eb] The final amp we're going to demonstrate is the Category 5, which is basically just a
Super Lead with a mid boost on it, which I like because it brings the Super Lead up here.
The Super Leads [G] tend to be a bit distant on the mids, so the mids come forward.
So this is how this one sounds.
[D] _ [A] _ _ [Em] _ _ _ _ _
[D] _ [Am] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [G] It's a bit cleaner than the rest of the amps, which I like because then I use a fuzz face
on the Super Lead only.
[E] _ _ _ _
_ [A] _ _ _ _ [Bm] _ _ _
_ _ [G] _ _ _ _ [D] _ _
_ [Em] _ _ _ _ _ [C] _ [G] _
[D] _ _ [E] _ [G] _ _ [Gb] _ _ _
[Em] _ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _ [E]
The fuzz face is very expressive.
I like it.
We do a bit of Zeppelin piece and I do the dazed and confused riff on it. _ _
[A] _ _ [E] _ _ _ [A] _ _ _
[D] _ _ [Em] _ _ _ [D] _ _ _
_ _ [Db] _ _ _ [G] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ You know, kind of gives it the sound of the amp [N] about ready to explode, because it really
is about ready to explode.
So anyway, that's my rig.
The pedals are pretty simple.
I use a Tube Screamer on everything just to boost the gain.
So here's with [A] the Super Lead. _ _
_ [Gm] _ [A] _ _ _ _ _ [G] _
[Am] It [Cm] _ _ _ _ [G] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [D] _ [Em] _ _ _ _ _
is not a [G] magic Tube Screamer.
It is not one [N] that was custom made for me.
In any way, you go to any guitar center and buy one.
That's the real thing.
Any of this stuff you can buy at a guitar center, except the fuzz face, which was made
for me by a guy named George, who works for Jim Dunlop, who made a beautiful fuzz face.
But anyway, that's the only custom made pedal.
Now I use a gas pedal.
This guy is from Seattle, Washington.
And this one here is kind of a cross between a fuzz face and a clean boost, which I like
with the Marshall.
[E] _ _ _ _ [D] _ _ [E] _
_ [D] _ [G] _ [Am] _ [Em] _ _ _ _
_ [Bm] _ _ [Em] _ _ [E] _ _ [D] _
_ _ [G] _ _ [A] _ [G] _ _ [E] _
_ _ [Bm] _ _ _ _ [G] _ _
_ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _ [Am] _
[G] _ _ [Am] _ _ _ [G] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [E] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [Gb] _ _ _ [E] It also gives you that nice high harmonic, too, which you need, which I use for a song
called Slow Gin, when we go like this.
_ [Eb] _ _
[Bm] _ _ _ [N] Hold on.
_ No, wrong amp.
I get confused myself.
[D] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [Eb] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [G] So that's an easy way to get a high harmonic.
And I use a lot of that stuff for just different textures and tones.
[D] And then a stock Vox Wah Wah and a stock DD3 [G] delay, a couple amp switchers, and there you [Bm] go.
So hope you liked it.
And [N] this guitar will be based on Joe Bonamassa's signature Les Paul.
So if you have all this, you can sound a lot better than I would, frankly, today.
Anyway, thank you for watching.
