Start Jamming...
This [Am] song came to me, it was probably [B] 1983 or 84, I can't remember.
It kind of all blends together.
I was in my little apartment in Greenwich Village in New York City
and we were recording an album called Big Bam Boom.
Oh, we have a Big Bam Boom fan in the back.
Woo!
Okay.
A child of the 80s has just acknowledged this.
Anyway, so I'm sitting there, I had all this new technology
and at the time, I know it's hard to imagine in this day and age,
but back then, if you wanted to record something and overdub
and record multiple tracks, you had to go into a recording studio.
They had just invented a multi-track cassette recorder.
And it was a big deal to have one.
I could record multiple tracks right in my tiny little bedroom.
And I also had this cool synthesizer, this Roland synthesizer.
Now, I'm not much of a keyboard player and I didn't even know how to use it.
But, well, I was stoned, so I hit this button.
And it said arpeggiator.
And I didn't even know what it was.
And it started going, tonk, tonk, tonk, tonk, tonk, tonk.
And I went, oh, that's cool, that's a song.
And so I proceeded [C] to go, tonk, tonk, tonk, [B] tonk, tonk, tonk, tonk, tonk, tonk, tonk, tonk, [G] tonk, tonk, tonk, tonk, tonk, tonk, tonk, tonk, tonk, tonk, tonk, tonk, tonk.
And by dawn, I had finished this chorus that I thought was pretty cool.
And I took it into the studio the next day and working with one of our co-producers.
And I said, hey, man, check this out.
This could be a great song for the stylistics, because it sounded like a Philly soul song to me.
And he said, no, you're out of your mind.
That's a hit record for you and Daryl.
So Daryl and I finished it up.
We wrote the verse.
And so here's kind of the acoustic version of that song.
[C] [A]
[E] [D] [E]
[Am] [C] [F] [Dm]
[E] [D] [Em]
[C] [Am]
[Em] [G] [A] Shake it [D] up is how that we know.
[Am] Using the fire to set this week go.
[D] Waking up to a fantasy.
[Am] The shades all around, all the colors we used to see.
[G] [D] Broken eyes [Em] still melt in the sun.
[C] Ties that are broken [Am] can often [D] be won.
[G] [D] So alone.
[F] So [C] really matters to me.
Too much sometimes.
You're out of [D] touch.
I'm out of [Em] time.
[D] But I'm out of [Em] my head when you're [D] not [C] around.
You're out of [Am] touch.
I'm [D] out of [Em] time.
But [D] I'm out of [Em] my head when you're not [C] around. Oh, [A] oh.
[Em] [D]
Reaching out for something [Am] to hold.
Looking for love when the climate is cold.
[Dm] Manic [Am] moods and drowsy dreams.
Living in the middle between the two [G] extremes.
[D] Smoking guns [Em] still hard to touch.
[C] Who now if it [Am] didn't use them so [D] much.
[G] [D] So alone.
[F] So really [Am] matters to me.
[C] Too [Am] much [C] sometimes.
You're out [Am] of touch.
I'm out [Em] of time.
[D] But I'm out [Em] of my head when you're not [C] around.
You're out of touch.
[D] I'm out [Em] of time.
[D] But I'm out [Em] of my head when you're not [C] around.
[Am] Oh,
[Em] oh.
[D] [Em]
Oh, oh.
Oh, [C] [Am] [D] oh. [A] Oh, oh. Oh, oh.
[Am] Out of touch.
Out of time.
Oh, oh.
[A]
[C] Out of touch.
Out of time.
[Am]
[A] Oh, oh.
[Am] Out of touch.
Out of time.
Out of touch.
Out of time.
[C] Say it.
You're [F] out of [E] touch.
[D] I'm out of [Em] time.
[Dm] But I'm out of [Em] my head when you're [Dm] not [C] around.
You're out of [Am] touch.
I'm out of [Em] time.
But [D] I'm out of [G] my head when you're not [C] around.
You're out of [Am] touch.
[D] I'm out of [Em] time, but [D] I'm out of my [Em] head when you're not [C] around
You're out of [Am] touch, [Dm] I'm out of [Am] time
Out of touch, out of time
Out [Bm] of my head when you're not around
[C] Out of touch, out of time
You're out [A] of touch, I'm out [E] of [Em] time
[N]
