[N] I'm John Schofield and here are some warm up exercises that you can do with the metronome
and I like the TM40 tuner metronome that Korg makes.
Well I think this is a great warm up exercise for anybody.
I do it when I pick up my guitar just to get going and it's not super hard.
So it's good for beginners too to [C] get going on single line playing but it's just a chromatic
scale, one octave of a chromatic scale.
I pick up my guitar and I just start playing it.
[Db] [D] [Eb] [E]
[F] This is in the [G] key of C.
[A] [B] From C to C.
From C to [A] shining [E] C.
[Gb]
[E] [Dm] [Db] [Eb]
[Gb] [A] [C] Over and over again.
[A] [Gm] [Gb] [E]
[D] That's the [Db] fingering I like I think.
[E]
[A] [C] [E] [A]
[G] [Em] [A] [C] [D]
[A] And then [Bb]
[C] if [Bb] you want to [Ab] [Am] work on your speed [Eb] you can do
it with [Dbm] a [C] metronome so that you don't [N] slow down.
[E] [C] [N]
[Am] And it just over and over and you [N] know
warms you up.
And I was alternate picking that one.
That's hard.
Err.
Then sometimes I do it without alternate picking just slurring.
[Am] That [Em]
[A]
sort of thing.
[G] When I pick up my guitar I always play this one lick without even thinking and I guess
it's because I like the way it sounds.
Turns out it's perfect fifths.
[C] Just going up from a C in perfect fifths.
[G]
[D] [Am]
[G] Which is a really nice tonality in C major and I just
tend to you know pick those notes over and over [C] again as an exercise.

[Am] [G]
[A] [D] [C] [G]
[A] [G] [D]
[N] And then you can practice along with the metronome again so that you don't slow down.
And it's a good exercise to do over and over and gets you going on the guitar just like the
chromatic scale did and ready to play some real music not just exercise.

And then another thing that I do when I play just pick
up the guitar is sort of automatically I think everybody does certain phrases just to see if
their instrument's working you know.
And I play a two octave major seven arpeggio in C.
Starting with a seventh usually.
[Em]
And then I put the ninth [G] and the augment 11 on top.
[Em] [C]
It's just a nice sound.
I don't start with a seventh I start with a root.
What am I talking
about?
[Em] [C]
And you can practice it with a metronome to get yourself in time.
[G] [C]
