[F] [Bb] Hey, I figured I'd run through a Stones lesson today.
Especially on one that, well, there's a lot of different ways to play it.
In fact, Keith has probably played all of those different ways.
[F] This is [Bb] sort of, well, [N] it's my interpretation of how the original Studio one was done.
The second guitar part, which would be, I guess, Brian's part.
It wasn't done on electric.
It was done on [F] acoustic on both the guitar parts.
But it's [Bb] easier to hear on this one.
Easier to play it, too.
So let's get right into it.
It's in open E, or it may fall somewhere in the cracks between D and E [Eb] or something.
But you [Bb] can just tune to the record, because it starts in that B chord.
So the intro goes, [Eb] [Ab] [Bb]
[Eb] [Ab] [Bb] right, that's just all the way across at 7, [Eb] 0, [Ab] 5.
[Bb]
[Eb] [Ab] [Bb] [Eb]
[Ab] [Bb]
And when he does the, every time, I think it's every time, he's about to go into a
verse, he hits that high, right?
So you're still all the way across at 7, and then cover the high E string at 11.
And then the main riff.
[Ab] [Bb]
[Ab] [Bb] So that is on the 7th fret, cover E, A, and D string.
And that's really, it's a 5th chord.
So you're just playing, for that one, you just do those three, really.
[Ab]
[Bb] [Eb] And the second part is on the A string, it goes 5, [F] 7.
[Ab]
And then it's at the 5th fret, A, D, G.
You're really kind of concentrating on the A and D strings for that, but if you hit the
G string, don't worry about it.
[Bb] [Eb] [F]
[Ab] [Bb] [Ab]
[Bb] [F]
[Ab] [Bb] In fact, you [Ab] should really [C] go ahead and [F] hit that G string on that second part of that,
the [Ab] 5th fret.
[Bb]
[Ab] Right.
That's during the [Db] verse, and then it does, it's all the chorus part.
[Ab] [Eb]
[Bbm] [Db]
[Ab] [Eb] [Bb] Right?
So [Db] that is at the 10th, all of them bar across at the 10th.
On the high E [F] string, you go 14, 12, and then [Db] 10.
[Bb] [Ab] [B] Same fingering, except now you're doing it down at the 5th fret, so it goes [F] 9, 7, [Bb]
[Ab] 5th.
[Eb]
That's just open, and then it goes 10, 9, 7.
[Bbm]
[G] The last one is all the way, you do the same thing you just did, except you're barring
all the way across at the 7th, so it [F] goes [Bbm] 10, 9, 7.
[Eb] So it's 10, 9, 7 with all of them open, [B] and then 10, 9, 7 with them barred across at the 7th.
So the whole [Db] thing goes
[Ab] [Eb]
[Bbm] [Db]
[Ab] [Eb]
[Bb] And then it'll go into another verse.
[Ab] [Bb]
Then another [Db] one of these.
Then it [Bbm] gets into that middle part where it goes into the
I did it to [Bb] Gas, Gas, Gas.
[Eb]
[Bb] Right?
That little, if you call that a guitar [A] solo.
It's an instrumental break, but there's no real solo in it.
But for that [Bb] part, I do it down here like this.
I hit that chord, so I'm hitting the E, D, G, and B strings with the D string covered
at the 2nd, G string at the 3rd.
So you get kind of a B5 chord for that.
[Eb]
[Bb] [Eb]
[Bb] You just hit that, and then these in between, which is you're [N] fretting the E string and
sort of picking the E and the B string.
So he doesn't do the same thing each time [Gm] through.
Sometimes [Eb] it's
[Bb] And then the next time, [Eb] he [Bb] [Eb]
[Bb] [Eb] [Bb] just [F] varies them up a little bit, but it's the same thing.
It's E string, 4, [Ebm] 2, [Ab] off, and sometimes it's [F] 4, 2, off, [G] 2, [N] 4.
But listen to it, and you can hear what he's doing [Bb] on it, but it's just a little B5 [Eb] chord
in between them.
[Bb] And then back to another one of these to finish it up.
[Ab]
[Db] Back through another verse, and then [Ab] another
[Eb] [Bbm] [Db] [Ab]
[Eb] [Bb]
All that.
And I think that's all the parts there is [Eb] [Bb] in [Eb] [Bbm]
the [Ebm] outro.
[Bbm] He's playing that on the high E string and the [Eb] B string.
[Bbm] 12, [Eb] 10, [Bb] 9, 7, you know, and he's
I don't know [Ebm] what the order of those are, but he's just messing around.
[Bbm] And then it's
You can kind of make up your own little melodies [A] over the top of it, but 12, 10, [Bb] 9, and 7.
And you're just hitting those two strings, the [Eb] B string and the [Bbm] high
Only [Gb] those two.
[Bbm]
[Eb] [Bbm]
That kind [B] of stuff through the end.
I think that's all the parts to it.
Keith plays a little bit different.
He's not doing all this, [Bbm] you know, the
[Bb] He's not doing all that stuff.
He's just doing chords and the main riff.
But if you were playing at a bar gig and you only had [B] one guitar and you wanted to do it
sort of faithful to the original one on one guitar, you could do a version something like
this or figure out your own.
But if you have any questions, let me know.
[N]
Especially on one that, well, there's a lot of different ways to play it.
In fact, Keith has probably played all of those different ways.
[F] This is [Bb] sort of, well, [N] it's my interpretation of how the original Studio one was done.
