[Eb]
[Bm] So I had a phone call one day [Gb] in that big old house, you know, [C] Mitchell's Gallery in
[Ab]
Parliament.
You could be in the lounge and somebody would walk across.
But I had a phone
call one day there and it was an American record producer living in London, a guy called
Jack Wayne.
So he [Gb] said
[G] to me, [Bm] he said, are you the guy who sold [N] me my wife's CD?
[Gb] I [Ab] can't
remember what I was quite thinking.
He was in the positive.
[Gb] That wasn't [D] the end
[Ab] of [Gb] the
conversation.
[Ab] He took me around to demo it and the next day I was playing it in [Gb] a bar
and [G] [Eb] I really wasn't going to do it because [Gb] I didn't do other people's songs.
But it just
so happened that that day [D] there was a guy called Lee Moody Boo's record [E] shop.
[Ab]
We had
[Bm] this chain of record shops.
[Gb] [B] We used to follow [Gb] the Beatles into these big beats.
[Bm] It must
have been a good idea.
[B] It was a lousy idea actually.
So there was a guy that [Gb] was making
a cup of tea in the kitchen and he came into the lounge and he [Ab] said, you ought to do that
song.
So I said, that guy's put a lot of work into that.
[Gb]
So anyway I went down to the studio
called Ant Vision behind Oxford Street [G] and I met Jack and became [Gb] involved in this project
that he was doing that was a musical version of the H.G. Wells story of the War of the
[G] Worlds.
And [Gb] we [G] had a great couple of days and then I heard nothing for about a year.
And then I had a phone call again from the promo [Ab] guy at CBS [Bm] and he said, you know that
thing [B] you did with Jeff Wayne and I said, yeah I [Gbm] know that.
And he said, it's in the
charts.
I said, [B] well we're in the charts.
I could be like 193, couldn't I?
So he said,
well [Gb] it's 33 and if you do Top of the Pops this Thursday, the big pop show on English
TV, [N] it would be in the top 30 actually.
It would be [Gb] great for everybody.
So I [D] said, sure
I'll do Top [Gb] of the Pops for one of the pop songs and I'm so glad I got to sing this.
[D] [Gb] And I do.
[N]
[Gb] The [Dm]
summer sun is fading [C] as the year goes on
[Bb]
And [Gm] darker [F] days are drawing [C] near
The [Bb]
winter winds will be [C] much colder
Now you're [Dm] not here
I watch the birds fly south [C] across the autumn sky
And [Bb]
[F] while [Gm] I'm [F] away [C] disappearing
[Bb] I wish that I [C] could be there
Now you're [Dm] not here
Like [Bb]
[F] the sun through [Eb] the trees you came [Dm] to love me
Like [Bb]
[F] the leaf on [Eb] a breeze you blew [Dm] [Am]
away
[Bb] [F] [C] [Eb]
[Ebm] Through [Dm]
autumns colder now we used [C] to get away
You [Bb]
[Dm] [Gm] always loved me [F] somehow [C] in the end
[Bb]
Just believe I [F] [C] understood now
Cause you're not [Dm] here
Cause you're [C] not here
Cause you're [Dm] not here
