Growing up, I had friends that would be like,
oh my god, you're so strong.
How are you?
How is this?
Da da da da da.
I always just felt surprised when people would say that
to me, I'm like, I look strong to you?
It must be a crazy facade.
[Em] You know, I always been working with Tyler.
I had never asked him to be on it.
I just showed him the song, like, oh yeah,
I have this new song, da da da da da.
So, when I saw that he really liked it, I was like,
why don't you get on it?
And if it feels good, then it works.
And you know, music is about energy,
and everything was just, everything just flowed.
Everything was just super natural.
I did a [N] interview with Billboard,
and they asked me, who do you want to work with?
And I was like, it would be cool to work
with Boosie Collins.
He reached out to me on Twitter.
He DM'd me, and he's like, hey,
I heard you want to work with me, let's make it happen.
I'm like, what?
You use Twitter?
That was kind of the starting point of where I was at
when I wrote the song, was like,
thinking about how much all these people
are going through, they're like,
I can't be there for them.
You live close to someone or not, you know,
we're all in life alone.
We're born alone, we die alone.
And that's just the reality of the situation.
When my dad came to America, he vowed he was going to bring
as much family as he could.
A lot of my little cousins didn't have their parents at all
because their parents were, you know,
staying at our house, trying to just send, you know,
toys and clothes back to them and send money for them
and do what they could.
You see everybody grow up before your eyes.
Every time I go back to see my family,
the babies are teenagers now, and it's like,
damn, I missed out on your whole life.
If you look in the mirror, you just be like,
damn, you're that bitch.
You're going to do amazing today.
You're fucking beautiful.
You're killing it.
You know, you just tell yourself
all the things you need to hear.
Cause sometimes you don't have anybody else
to tell you that, you know,
you just have to learn not to expect people to do that,
but to do it for yourself.
Everybody has their own method.
I like to be alone.
I believe in like solidarity and isolation
and getting closer to yourself is getting closer to God.
That's how I pick myself up.
And that's how I keep myself quiet
when bad stuff happens to me.
I have like a huge level of respect for like people
that actually work hard and that are like survivors.
It's easy to, when you're in a good place
or when you're the unicorn that was able to like,
get out of the circumstances,
which doesn't happen for a lot of people
because of the way the system is built.
It's easy to be like, oh, well I got here.
Anything is possible.
You could do it too.
Why can't you just do it for yourself?
You know, it's not that easy for everybody.
Just cause you're losing at the time
doesn't mean that you're a loser yet.
You don't have to think that you lost
just cause everything around you feels like
you're not a winner.
