[Cm] [F] [Cm]
[F] Welcome, [F#] I'm David Singleton, [G] producer of King [Cm] Crimson 50.
[F] To celebrate [F#] King Crimson's 50th [G] anniversary, [Cm] this year we will be releasing 50 rare or
interesting [F] King Crimson tracks, one a [F#] week, starting on [G] the 13th of January, [F] which is
King Crimson's [F#] birthday, the day [G] in 1969 when they [Fm] first began [F#] rehearsing in the [G] Fulham
Palace [F] Café in [F#] London.
[G]
[F] [F#] [G] [F#] [Cm] [F]
[C] Appropriately, the first [Gm] track is 21st Century Schizoid Man, [C] the opening track on their first [Gm] album.
[Cm] [Gm] This [E]
particular version also dates to my own first involvement with the [Cm] band, [E] [G] when I first
worked with Robert [Cm] Fripp and helped compile a frame-by-frame box set in 1991.
[F] [Gm]
[Cm]
I recall exactly how this radio edit came to be made.
[D#] [G] The record label, Virgin [C] Records, were keen that there would be a radio [Gm]-friendly version
of 21st Century Schizoid Man to help promote the box set, and I [Cm] recall Robert Fripp [F] telling
them that there [Gm] was no [Cm] such thing as the track [F] was about [G] 7 inches 30 long.
[Cm] [F] And [Cm] [Gm] in my naive innocence of King Crimson, I [C] recall telling him, well of course there's
a shorter [Gm] version, because I can remember when I very first heard this [C] song, thinking
what a wonderful first verse, what a wonderful second verse, [Gm] what a wonderful third verse,
and what on earth are all those solos doing in the middle?
[Cm]
Proving [F] that he has a sense of humour, [F#] Robert Fripp suggested that [G] I try making [Cm] exactly that edit.
I'm [G] not sure [F] that I'd be entirely [F#] satisfied with it these days, [G] but [F] here it is, [F#] the radio
edit [G] of [F] 21st Century [F#m] Schizoid [G] Man [F] in [F#] [G] 1991.
