King Crimson - Dinosaur [50th Anniversary | Single Release 1995] chords
Start Jamming...
[D] Dinosaur, the single from 1995.
Let's start with [Dm] a question for the highly unlikely [A] King
Crimson Pub Quiz.
Which King Crimson album has had the [G] most singles taken from it, [Bb] and
how many were there?
[Dm] The first answer, [Bm] rather predictably given the track we've [Bb] chosen,
is of course Thrack.
[D] More surprisingly, [F] there were four [D] singles taken from it.
Michael Plen, head of promotions at [Dm] Virgin Records in America, released Dinosaur, Sexily
Beat Drink Dream, Walking [Bm] on Air, and People as radio singles.
[Dm] There were apparently [Bm] jokes at the
time that there were as many [Bb] singles taken from the King Crimson album as there were from the
latest one by Janet [C] Jackson.
It pays to have fans [D] in high places.
His faith was justified,
[C] as the USA was by far the best performing territory for the Thrack album.
[A]
[G] For this radio single, we removed the orchestral section [D] which precedes the guitar solo,
but I've always remembered [A] the way that that section was created.
[D] An interesting lesson for any would-be record producers.
[G] [C] The orchestral section [Dm] was originally continuous, leading all the way to the guitar [D] solo.
[Dm]
At the [D] mixing stage, Robert Fripp muted the final phrase, so there was [Dm] then a silence,
[D] followed by the guitar solo.
[Dm]
Unsurprisingly, this [G] initially felt shocking [D] and arbitrary,
as you could sense the absence of what was there before.
He then suggested [Dm] that we accept
it has always been like this, and listen again.
[E] Listening in this way [F] was very different.
It suddenly felt perfectly [Dm] right.
Just as when you hear music by any [F] other artist,
where you don't question [Dm] the decisions because you never get to hear the alternatives.
[E] [F] [Dm] But for those who only know the album version [E] of Dinosaur, here [Fm] is an alternative.
