[E] Hi, this is Gaylord again and this time I thought I'd show you how to do Kodachrome
by Paul Simon.
[G#m] This is a great song for [G] beginners or [F] intermediate players because [Am] it gives you an opportunity
to throw in your riffs [F#] with some pretty easy chord changes too.
So [E] anyway, it starts off with a D.
Now I'm using this with a capo too so [D] when I refer
to [G#] the second fret, I know it's [E] actually four but I'm going to think of this as the beginning
of the guitar, okay?
So anyway, it starts off with a D.
Now you don't want to start playing too fast because
this song really gets going [G] by the end so I even play it too fast on this [E] tutorial but
you may want to slow it down a little bit.
Start with a D, open four and then I come up, my upbeat is on the first, second and third string.
Down on four, up on one, two and three.
[A] I try and get into a full strum just to make it sound a little bit fuller.
You don't need to.
[A] [E]
[F#m] [B]
Now all your [B] riff is, is like it's [Am] played on the sixth, [A] five and four strings.
So it starts off on the third fret on the sixth, you're going to hit that twice and
then [C] you go to the first fret on five, do a [C#] hammer up to the [G#m] second fret on five and
open [D] four two [E] times.
So it's like [A] this.
[F#] [C#m]
And then [C#] two on [B] five, open five and then you start it [A] again.
But [C#m]
[B] [A] [E]
the second time you play it you only hit that fourth string once [A] and then you do a
walk down on your sixth string starting on [G#] three, two, [G] one, [F#] [F#m] open and then an E minor.
So it's, [C#m]
[E] [F#m]
[B] now your chords [E] starts, I do a D,
[G#m] D major seven.
A D [E] major seven is just the [C#m] second [G#m] fret on first, second and third.
Just hold that [E] down.
And then it goes to a D seven.
So it's kind of a walk down on a D really [G#m] [E]
[A] to a G.
And that's like this.
When I [E] think back on all the crap I learned [F#m] in high school.
[B] And when you get to high school that's where [E] you start your riff again.
When I think back on all the crap I [A] learned in high school.
[F#m]
It's a wonder [B] I can [E] think at all.
[F#m] [B] Okay now what you're doing there, [F#m] that's an E minor.
It's a [B] wonder A [E] can't think at all.
G [F#m] and then E minor [B] and A for that little riff in there.
[E] And though my lack of education [A] hasn't hurt me none.
Ah, you didn't think [E] I might find my lack of education [A] hasn't hurt me none.
[F#m] I can [B] read the writing on [E] the wall.
Then the chorus is a.
[A] [C#m]
[F#m] All that [A] is is a G, [C#m] B minor [F#m] and E minor.
Give us those nice bright colors that's A minor.
[Bm]
D, [E] [A] G, [D] C, [B]
A seven and an A seven is an [D#m] A without the third string.
Just third string is [B] open.
So it's a, makes you think.
[E] D, [A] sunny day.
[C#m]
[F#m] [A] That's day is G, [C#m] B minor, [A] E.
[F#m]
Then it starts that pattern again.
I've [Bm] got a night [E] on hand.
[A] G, [D] C, [B] A seven, [E]
D, [A] G, B minor, E.
[C#m]
[F#m] [B]
Now what I want you to notice [F#] here is the way I [G#m] change that strumming just to make it sound full.
And to kind of go with the percussion.
I've got a great percussionist so when I'm trying to [N] follow him it just makes it really sound full if you can change that guitar beat.
Don't try [A] and play the kumbaya all the time, [B] okay?
Change up your strums.
So mama don't [E] you cry.
[C#m] [F#m]
[B] Then he starts over.
If [E] you took all the girls I knew when [A] I was single.
[B] [Am] [G#m] [F#m]
Brought them all [B] together for [E] a night. Okay?
[F#m] [B] Okay?
So that's all there [F#m] is to it.
The same chord patterns.
[F#] When you get to the [A] end you're going to want to just go G, [C#m] B [F#m] minor, and E minor over and over again.
Mama don't [B] take my coat of [G#] chrome away and he keeps woo woo woo [A] woo all that stuff.
[C#m]
[F#m] He sleaze it up too.
[A] [C#m]
[F#m]
[A] [C#m]
[F#m]
[A] [C#m]
[F#m] Any kind of a, man he [F#] just gets super fast on that [A] but it just gets your strumming [F#] in there.
Hey I've [N] gone long enough for you.
I hope that helps you a little bit.
I hope you enjoyed that song.
