Hi everybody, it's Avishai again from Piano Freak China.
In this video lesson I'm going to show you how to play this very easy and basic Montuno.
Stay with me and let's dive in.
So now I would like to say something about the harmony.
In this case we are playing a progression in C major scale.
[Dm]
[C] If we play the chord I can say that we are playing 1, 2, 5, 1.
Which means 1 is the first chord, the first note of the scale, which is the C note.
The second will be [D] D, the fifth will be G, [G] and we go back to the [C] main, to the first degree,
to the C.
So, if I play chord I can play 1 will be the C major chord, [Dm] 2 will be the D minor chord,
the [G] fifth will be a G chord, and we go back [C] to C.
Now I'm going to show you the Montuno roll.
Let's play a C major chord, like this.
I play C, E, and G.
This is the first position.
The second position I just take my thumb one note down, [Em]
to the B.
And then I take it down to the A, [A] and I go back to [Em] B, and back to C again.
[C] That's the position.
And now I'm going to split the note, like this.
[Em] [A] [Em]
[C] [Em]
[A] [Em]
[C] Let's count it.
1 and [Em] 2 and 3 [A] and 4 and [Em] 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 [C] and 1 [Em] and 2 and 3 and [A] 4 and [Em] 1 and 2 and 3 [Dm] and 4.
In the second degree of the scale we are playing D minor chord.
And I can do the same.
[F] I just move my thumb to the C, and then to [B] B, back [F] to C.
With the count it will [D] be 1 [F] and 2 and 3 and [B] 4 and [F] 1 and 2 and 3 and 4.
When I play the fifth degree of the scale, the G chord, I can stay with the same [C#] movement.
I just adding a passing tone, which is the C sharp.
[D] [F] [B]
