Today, we're going to take a break from using a PC to create launchpad content, and
instead, start using one of these things.
[B] [Bm] Making launchpad projects [D] has always been extremely [A] overcomplicated, and requires a
bunch of training to actually set it up, [Em]
create the projects, and then actually [Bm] go and perform
the projects in the end.
And I know [D] that can be really daunting for someone who's extremely new to the [A] whole
[Em] launchpad project thing.
And I mean look, this [Bm] is just some of the basic stuff.
Just [D] come on, how is a [A] beginner expected to set this up?
[Em] So I'm now much more aware of how difficult [Bm] it can be for some people to actually get
their [D] hands on a launchpad project and play [Am] anything really, because [A] you've got to have
a [Em] top of the line computer almost just to get [Bm] any of this stuff going.
So I figured we'd [D] change platforms.
How about going across to a mobile device?
[Em] This is what this video is about, if you haven't figured that out already.
[Bm] But I found this mobile app called [D] SuperPads Lite.
Now in essence, [A] this app is a slimmed down version of Ableton.
[C] I mean, quite literally, it fits in your pocket.
[G] It's easily the simplest launchpad simulation app I've seen to date.
And it's [A] fairly simple to get the hang of, just plug in your [Am] launchpad using the [C] cable
and the adapter for your [Gm] device.
Which by the way, if you have an iPhone, [F#] you'll need this adapter, because the [B] launchpad draws
way [A] too much power from the device.
[C]
[G] [Bm]
Open up the app.
Once [A] you're all connected up and ready, you're good to go.
[C] No more setup.
See, I told you it [G] was easy.
[Bm] So here's a little demonstration of what the app can [D] do when performing [F] live.
[G]
[Gm]
[Gm]
[G]
[A] So you can see from that, the lights are pretty [Em] good for just coming out of a phone app.
[F#] I'm actually pretty damn [Bm] impressed by that.
[A] I have seen some competing launchpad simulation apps before, but nothing has [Em] actually come
close to pulling it off this well.
[Bm] There's a few available songs created by [D] SuperPads to play [A] already, and many more will be available
over time that the app is out.
[Em] You can make your own packs pretty [Bm] easily as well.
Here's a very quick one I threw together [D] in about 15 [Gm] minutes.
[G]
[Gm]
[G]
[Gm] [D]
So there's also [A] skins available as in-app [Em] purchases that basically change the way the app looks.
[Bm] So you can customise it to more your style.
[D] So you could use something like the light [A] theme, the dark theme, the [Em] pixelised theme,
the polished theme, [Bm]
3D theme, old school [D] theme, or even my very own, [Am] phantom theme.
[Em] Everything you need for making a basic launchpad project is [Bm] contained right within the app.
The [D] audio creation, even some basic light effect [Am] production as well.
For example, [Em] audio and sampling is as simple as choosing a button [Bm] position, importing [D] the
track you want from your music library, [A] and selecting a section of the song using the
[C] two in and out markers.
[G] You can zoom [Bm] in to get a more accurate representation of your [A] sample, and cut the track down to
make it slightly [C] easier to get your samples accurate and [G] on point.
Just [Bm] assign it to a certain button, choose a [A] colour, and then move on to the next button.
[Em] And then, when you do that, the exact length of the [Bm] previous sample will copy [D] across to
the new button, [A] making it really quick and easy to [A] sample a certain [Em] sized chunk of a
song while keeping the same [Bm] note length.
You can also turn one of these [A] samples into a loop.
So say for example you want this sound to loop continuously [B] on this button, you can
make it [F#] so that whenever you press the button, it will [D] continue looping until pressed again
and the [A] loop will stop.
[C] Once you've completed that stage of [G] sampling, you can move on to adding the light effects.
[Bm]
[A] There are a whole collection of [C] preset light effects to choose from, as well as actually
being [G] able to produce some of your own.
[Bm] The light effects are built up like frames of a video.
[A] You build each frame individually, and then [C] colour each individual pixel.
[G] [Bm]
[A]
[C] Once you finish your light effect, it will be re [G]-timed to the same length as the sample
that you apply the light effect to.
[A]
So once the whole performance is compiled together, exit the editor and try out the full performance.
[G] [B]
[Bm]
[A] [G]
[Em] [Bm]
[F#]
So hey, the app [G] itself makes production like this a [Em] lot easier actually, [Bm] and accessible too.
And portable!
I [E] mean, it's on this thing.
[F#]
So I hope this makes [Em] Launchpad much more [Bm] accessible to beginner users.
Thank [F#] you for watching guys, and I look forward to seeing what you make with [Em] SuperPAD's lights.
