In 1992, the film Aladdin took us on a magic carpet ride to a whole new world.
Now for the first time in nearly a quarter century, Lea Salana and Brad Kane, who performed
that Oscar-winning song, are reuniting.
They're right here to sing for a GMA exclusive.
Accompanying them, just eight-time Oscar winner, composer Alan Menken, right there at the piano,
and the host, this is the cast, the crew behind Aladdin.
So happy to have you all here.
Can't believe it's been that long, right?
So much has happened in a couple decades, and I know you both have projects you want
to talk about.
Brad?
Sure.
No, I mean, you know, I did a lot of Broadway after I did Aladdin, but then I went into
writing and producing, and for the last four years I've been writing on a little pirate
show called Black Sails for Stars.
And we, you know, we shoot in South Africa, and it's a Treasure Island prequel, and it's
been a lot of fun.
Wow.
And Lea, you haven't gone far from Broadway.
No, I'm back on Broadway.
We're in previews now for a musical titled Allegiance, and our official opening is November
the 8th, and so far the audience has seemed to be loving it, so I'm hoping for the best.
I like that.
Alan, I know George mentioned the song has been in countless weddings.
We're listening to you, we're listening to you, but how does something like this come to you?
How did it come to, well, this was when Tim Rice came onto writing with me on Aladdin,
I quickly put together this song and One Jump Ahead and flew over to London, and this was,
we knew this was going to be the magic carpet ride song, and even before he passed away,
Howard Ashman and I had talked about this moment being this magical trip, and so I just
wanted that [Bm] very romantic feeling [D] of a flight.
And it comes quickly to you?
Well, once, you know, once something comes, once the assignment is clear, yeah, it comes pretty quickly.
Well, you have touched so many for so long, and we are so excited and ready to do this.
Are you ready?
Loving it.
Take us to a whole new world.
Thanks, Jamie.
I can [A] show you the [D] world, shining, [Bm] shimmering, splendid.
[A] Tell [Gb] me, princess, [B] now when did you [G] last let your heart [D] [E] decide?
[D]
I can open your eyes, take you [G] wonder by [A] wonder, [Em] [Gb] over, sideways, and under, [G] on a magic carpet ride.
[Em] A whole [A] new world, [Em] a new [A] fantastic point of view.
[D] No one to tell us no, or where to go, [Bm] or say [A] we're only [Em] dreaming.
A whole [A] new place [Bb] I never knew.
[Bm] [D] Live here, it's crystal [Bm] clear, that now I'm in [C] a whole new [D] world with you.
Now [A] I'm in a whole new [F] world with you.
[Bb] Unbelievable [F] sights, indescribable [Bb] [C] feeling, [A] soaring, tumbling, [F] freewheeling, through
an endless diamond sky.
[D] Don't you dare [F] close your eyes.
[D] A hundred thousand things to see.
I'll hold you, but let [F] me get spare.
I'm like a [G] shooting star.
[Bb] [C] A whole new world, with new [F] [C] horizons to [Dm] pursue.
[F] I'll chase [D] them [F] anywhere, there's time to spare.
[Dm] Let me share this [Cm] whole new [Dm] world with you.
[F] A whole [Bb] new world.
[F] [Gm] It's where [F] we'll [Bb] be.
A thrilling chase.
A wondrous [C]
place.
For you and [F]
[Bb] me.
