LEARN GUITAR EPISODE 2-Walk on By-The Intro & Verse chords
Start Jamming...
Hey everyone, this is Virtue Owl.
You're at Owl Access.
We're spreading more sonic love today, so we continue to learn to [E] play, Walk On By.
[C] Last [F]
week we [Em] learned the musical motif.
This [G] week, we're gonna chill [Em]
[G] on the intro.
[Em] [G] If you see me walking down the street, [A] then I start [Em] to cry [A] each time [G] we meet.
[A] Walk [Dm] on by, [Em] walk on [Dm] by.
Now to play this intro and this verse, we're only going to need two chords
and we're going to take a look at a third alternate chord.
Check them out.
Okay, [Em] your
first chord is this and it sounds like this.
[A] [Em]
[A] The second chord looks and sounds like this.
Okay, let's hear it.
All right, let's have a look at the third chord that I mentioned.
Keep in mind,
this chord is interchangeable with the one you just learned.
[Em]
[A] Okay, let's hear them side by side
and compare these two shades of sonic [Em] love.
[A] [Em]
[A] [E] Now let's have a look at what the right hand is doing.
[A] [Em] Now notice that I only use the thumb to strike that lower E note one time and then I didn't
use the thumb anymore.
Check this out.
[E]
[A] [Em] Now if you end up playing this song with other players,
for example, a bass player, you don't even need to really worry about using the thumb
because the bass player is going to love you if you leave room down on the bottom end for him
to do his thing.
So here's a little something with the thumb action happening.
Maybe a little
something like this.
[G] [A]
[Em] [G] [Em]
[G] [Em]
[G] [C#]
[G] [Em]
[G] [Em]
[G]
I will be a [C#] diva.
[G] Mama [Em] if I was a sea.
Little girl we couldn't get much higher.
[D#] And so however you end up playing it,
you can use the thumb just to sound a sustained note or you can actually use the thumb to create
some sort of a counterpoint or a bass line if you're not playing with a bass player.
Now you remember that substitute chord I said could be used interchangeably with the A7 slash E.
Let's close out this lesson by having a look where you can use that substitute chord in a
real world example.
We'll tie up the lesson there and we'll move on [G] next week.
[Em] [G]
[Em] If you see me walking
[A] [Em] [A] [Em] [A]
[Dm]
[G] down [Dm]
[Em] [Am]
[Em] [F] the street.
us a walk on by.

[Em] If you'd like to have the instrumental track to play along with, I'm putting [F] a download
[C] link below in the comment box.
Can you imagine a world with no music?
I can.
So keep spreading sonic love.
