OK, so I've got a picking pattern
that uses single notes again,
and it's kind of in the style or in the vein of Johnny [E] Cash,
so we're gonna play an E major chord.
And the rhythm is
Down, down, up, down, down, up, down
[A#] down, up, down, down, up, down down, up, down, down, up down, up, down, down, up, down down, up, down, [E] down, up, down Down, down, up, down, down, up, down, down, up, down, down, up, down, down, down, up, down, down, up, down, down, up, down, down, up, down. And we're gonna add a little bass note. It's a little bit of a challenge, but it's a good thing to practice super slow. And here's what we're gonna do. So remember what that rhythm was. Down, down, up, down, down, up, down, down, up, down, [A] down, up, down, down, up, down, down, up, down, down, [E] up. So we take this E major chord and we're gonna hit the open E string as that first down. and then a down up with the strum. And that's the pattern, but the second time, we're gonna hit the A string as the down, and then a down up pattern, so watch. And I am planting my pinky again, but the cool thing about a chord like E is if you don't accurately go, da da da da da da da, if you hit [Em] one of the other notes by accident when you're going pick, down up, pick, down up, pick, [E] down up, any of the notes are gonna be good. You know what I mean? So it's okay, but ideally, we wanna go, and then we can go to an A major chord, and what's fun about [A] an A major chord and a C major chord with this pattern is that we then go, [E] so this time we hit [A] the root, the down, and then down up, but then now the string [E] above it. [A] [E]

[N] So throughout all the series, I haven't introduced that little turnaround chord. It's in my blues series, because what I basically just did there was play the three chords of the E [B] blues, but it's called a B7 chord, and I'm gonna show it to you right now just for fun. Middle finger on the second fret of the A string, index on the first of the D string, ring finger on the second of the G, and then pinky on the second fret of the high E, and what's fun about this set of chords that we just did is this is kind of called the turnaround chord, or it's not kind of, it is the turnaround chord, but for the bass line, it's the same thing we were doing with A major, but we wanna go like this. We hit the A string, down, down up, then middle finger is gonna move [F#] up. [B] [F#m] [B]
[E] I was screwing [B] up a little bit there. [G] [F#] Did you hear that? [E] Wee, wee, oh, whoa, [F#] wee, [E] wee, oh. [B] So one, two, three, let's see, so. Five, six, seven, [F#] blah, blah, [E] blah, blah, blah, blah. Here [D] comes that B7 [B] again. Blah, blah, blah, blah, [F#] blah, blah, blah, [E] blah, blah, blah. Start over from the beginning, here we go. E chord, now we're gonna go to A, [A] back to [E] E, [G] now that [B] B7, [E]
[G] classic country, [B] B7, [E] and back to E, he [B] needs that B. I can't sing and play at the same time. Ah, wah, [E] wah, whoa, yeah. Okay, no singing, here we go, B7 again. [B] [E] [Em]
[A#] [Em] [E]
So a nice little country, country-ish, country blues kind of a picking pattern. I know it might be a little bit challenging to you as a beginner, but even if you practice it super slow, it's gonna, through osmosis, add to all your other skills. So keep that in mind, okay? Doing well, doing well, doing well, doing well. Got another one
