[D] Hello everyone.
[N] Welcome back to another guitar lesson.
Taylor Schlup here.
Thank you all so much for checking out this video.
We're going to go over the classic tune Life in the Fast Lane by the Eagles.
One of my favorite bands.
[Dm] And this is a great riff.
I think it was played on a Stratocaster by Joe Walsh.
[N] I could be wrong about that.
Could have been played on a Tele or something.
I definitely don't think it was like a Les Paul or anything.
So today we're going to use the Strat.
And we're going into the Fender Supersonic 22 head.
Going into the Two Notes Torpedo Live [Ab] for our cabinet.
I think we're using a Selle V30 112 open.
Maybe closed.
Anyway.
[N] So that's the gear for today.
Before we get started with the lesson, I also want to mention if you guys haven't already,
please be sure to go down to the corner there and hit the subscribe button.
And please be sure to get that bell on.
And also if you guys are interested in private one-on-one lessons, I do those over Skype.
I do have a couple more slots open, but they're filling up.
So if you guys are interested in that, you guys can email me over at taylorschlup10 at
gmail [Abm] dot com.
And we can set something up.
I appreciate it very much guys.
And let's go ahead and get to today's guitar lesson.
So it's not terribly difficult.
I say that at the beginning of every lesson.
So it's not too difficult, but there are a couple different moving parts that we need
to look at.
So let's just kind of walk through the very first run-through of this riff.
[Eb] And it looks [D] like this.
[A] [E] [D] [A]
[G] [E] Alright, so what I'm doing there is a hammer-on from the 5 to the 7 [D] on the A.
[E]
And then you're kind of barring that right there with your ring finger, because you're
going to play down on the [Gbm] D string then.
[Ab] Back [E] up to the A.
[Eb] To the 5th fret on the D.
[E] 7 to the 5 on the A.
[D] Okay, so let's go through that little part right there.
[A] [Em] [D] [A] Next [Em] [D] [A] [Em]
[D] [B] thing we're going to do is slide from the 7th fret, that B note there, on the E,
down to the 5th fret.
[A]
[G] And then 3rd fret, and then open E.
[E]
[A] [G] [E]
[A] [E] [N] So again, that whole first run-through slowed down looks like [D] this.
[A] [E]
[A] [G] [E] [D] [A] [E]
[A] [G] [E]
[G] Alright, now the second time is the exact same thing.
Actually, the rest [Abm] of the variations of the riff kind of stay the same.
It's just kind of the way that you play them and the timing.
So, the second time through, we're not going to play the open [G] E string at the end.
We're going to stop on that 3rd fret on the G note there.
So, on the E string.
So, first time [Abm] through, and then the second time through as well, [D] looks like [A] this.
[Em] [A] [G]
[E] [A] [E] [A] [G]
[Abm] Okay, and then the next two [D] times through look like this.
[A] [G] [E] [A]
[G] [Ab] Okay, now the big thing about getting this riff right is the timing.
So, I'm going to play it at normal speed so you guys can hear what it's supposed to sound like.
Okay, [A] [E] [A] [E]
[A] so [G]
on that last time through, [D]
you've got to rush back to get to [A] that
[G]
So, it's [A] like
[G]
[Ab] Okay, so the last two times through, again, look like [A] this.
[Em] [A]
Okay, [G] so there's no [C] pause in [B] between those two, really.
[D] So, that's the very first kind of four times through.
So, again, it's like this.
[A] [E] [A]
[G] [A] [E]
[A] [G]
[N] Alright, and then you repeat those first three times through again.
So, you're playing this riff about a total of eight times.
Where it changes is on the very [B] last run through.
You're going to [A] [G] [A] [Bb] go
[Abm] [Am] So, that's three, [G] five, six, and then seven.
Okay, so that's the first three times through.
[A] [Bb] [B]
Alright, so that last variation [D] looks like [A] this.
[Em] [A] [A]
[Bb] [Abm] [B] So, let's go ahead and play the last four times through.
And you guys can see what I mean here.
So, we just played the first four.
This is going into the last four.
[A] Okay?
[Em] [A]
[Ab] [D] [A] [E]
[A] [Em] [A] [Bb] [B]
[Em] Okay.
Alright, and that's all there is to it.
Let's go ahead and run through all eight of them.
And I'll play it slow first, and then we'll do it one time through [N] at normal speed.
Okay?
So, here's the [D] slow version of it.
[A] [Em]
[A] [Ab]
[D] [A] [E] [A]
[Em] [A] [G] [A] [E]
[A] [E] [Ab]
[D] [A]
[Bb] [B]
Alright, let's play it one more time, even slower than that.
Here [D] we go.
[A] [E]
[A] [E] [D] [A] [E]
[A] [E] [D] [A] [D] [A]
[G] [E] [A] [Em] [A] [G]
[D] [A] [E] [A] [E]
[A] [E] [A]
[Em] [A] [E] [A] [E]
[A] [G] [A] [Bb] [B]
[E] Alright, and now once at normal speed.
[D] [A]
[D] [A] [Em]
[A] [G] [A] [E]
[A] [G] [A] [E]
[A] [Bb] [B]
[N] There you guys have it.

[A] _ [E] _ _ _ [N] So again, that whole first run-through slowed down looks like [D] this.
[A] _ [E] _ _
[A] _ [G] _ [E] _ _ _ [D] _ [A] _ [E] _
_ [A] _ [G] _ [E] _ _ _ _ _
[G] Alright, now the second time is the exact same thing.
Actually, the rest [Abm] of the variations of the riff kind of stay the same.
It's just kind of the way that you play them and the timing. _
So, the second time through, we're not going to play the open [G] E string at the end.
We're going to stop on that 3rd fret on the G note there.
So, on the E string.
So, first time [Abm] through, and then the second time through as well, [D] looks like [A] this.
[Em] _ _ [A] _ [G] _
[E] _ _ [A] _ [E] _ _ [A] _ [G] _ _
[Abm] _ _ Okay, and then the next two [D] times through look like this.
[A] _ _ _ [G] _ [E] _ [A] _ _
_ _ [G] _ _ _ [Ab] _ Okay, now the big thing about getting this riff right is the timing.
So, I'm going to play it at normal speed so you guys can hear what it's supposed to sound like.
Okay, [A] _ [E] _ _ _ [A] _ _ [E] _ _
[A] so _ _ _ _ [G] _ _
_ _ _ on that last time through, [D]
you've got to rush back to get to [A] that_
_ _ [G] _
_ _ So, it's [A] _ like_
[G] _
_ _ _ [Ab] _ Okay, so the last two times through, again, look like [A] this.
[Em] _ _ _ [A] _ _
Okay, [G] _ _ _ _ so there's no [C] pause in [B] between those two, really.
_ [D] _ So, that's the very first kind of four times through.
So, again, it's like this.
[A] _ _ _ [E] _ _ [A] _ _
_ [G] _ _ [A] _ _ _ [E] _ _
[A] _ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _ _
_ [N] Alright, and then you repeat those first three times through again.
So, you're playing this riff about a total of eight times.
Where it changes is on the very [B] last run through.
You're going to [A] _ _ _ _ [G] _ [A] [Bb] go_
[Abm] _ _ _ [Am] So, that's three, [G] five, six, and then seven.
Okay, so that's the first three times through.
[A] _ [Bb] _ [B] _
_ _ _ _ Alright, so that last variation [D] looks like [A] this.
[Em] _ _ [A] _ [A] _ _
[Bb] _ [Abm] _ _ _ _ [B] So, let's go ahead and play the last four times through.
And you guys can see what I mean here.
So, we just played the first four.
This is going into the last four.
[A] Okay?
_ _ _ [Em] _ _ [A] _ _
_ [Ab] _ _ [D] _ [A] _ _ _ [E] _
[A] _ [Em] _ _ [A] _ _ [Bb] _ [B] _ _
_ _ _ _ [Em] Okay.
Alright, and that's all there is to it.
Let's go ahead and run through all eight of them.
And I'll play it slow first, and then we'll do it one time through [N] at normal speed.
Okay?
So, here's the _ [D] slow version of it.
_ [A] _ [Em] _
_ _ _ _ [A] _ _ _ [Ab] _
_ [D] _ [A] _ [E] _ _ _ _ [A] _
[Em] _ [A] _ [G] _ _ _ [A] _ _ [E] _
_ _ _ [A] _ [E] _ _ [Ab] _ _
[D] _ [A] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [Bb] _ [B] _ _ _ _
_ _ Alright, let's play it one more time, even slower than that.
Here [D] we go.
[A] _ _ [E] _ _ _
[A] _ [E] _ _ [D] _ [A] _ _ [E] _ _
[A] _ [E] _ _ [D] _ [A] _ _ [D] _ [A] _
[G] _ [E] _ [A] _ _ [Em] _ [A] _ [G] _ _
_ [D] _ [A] _ [E] _ _ [A] _ [E] _ _
_ [A] _ _ _ [E] _ _ _ [A] _
[Em] _ _ [A] _ [E] _ _ [A] _ [E] _ _
[A] _ [G] _ [A] _ [Bb] _ [B] _ _ _
[E] Alright, and now once at normal speed.
[D] _ [A] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [D] _ [A] _ [Em] _
_ [A] _ _ _ [G] _ _ [A] _ [E] _
_ _ [A] _ _ _ [G] _ [A] _ [E] _
_ _ [A] _ _ _ [Bb] _ [B] _ _
_ [N] _ There you guys have it.
