tonight the living legend award winner has been a big part of that history for over 30 years and
he's still selling records and still selling out them shows and
Here on this tape is a little bit of the history of the man himself
This year's living legend award my buddy and my friend Charlie Pratt
[F]
[C] [F] [C]
[F] Charlie [Bb] Pratt was born in Sledge, Mississippi [C] on March the 18th 1938
[F] He was the fourth of 11 children born to Mac [Am] and [F] Tessie Pratt
[C] Mac tuned in to the Grand Ole Opry every Saturday night [F] and turned Charlie Pratt on to country music
But [Bb] it was his mom Tessie who taught [C] him the things that stayed with him through [F] all his life
[Dm] I walked up to her and said mama.
I [D] said
If [Em] I had a million [A] dollars I could buy that
Car for you, and she stopped
[D] She [Em] stopped washing [D] and she said she [G] said that's right.
[D] She said you could buy that car
If you had a million [Bm] dollars
She said but there's a lot of people got a million [D] dollars would give a lot for what you got
She got five fingers on that [G] hand
Five fingers on your left hand you can see [A] you can run
She said [E] you're healthy now at that [A] time.
I was [Bm] small you know

[G] She finally said
[N] There's a lot of people give all that million and a whole bunch of the millions [E] for all of that
Charlie began his career in pro baseball as a pitcher in the old Negro American League
And that's when he met [B] his wife to be Rosene
[B] [A] After being drafted he married [E] Rosene while still in the army
Then after his discharge they settled [B] in Montana so Charlie [A] could work construction and play baseball
[E] He also sang a little
[Dbm] Country singer read [E] some vine heard him and encouraged him to go to Nashville [Gbm] and cut some [A] songs
Chet Atkins heard them and the next thing Charlie knew he was on [Gb] RCA record and [B] baseball was a thing [E] of the past
Post I got with the majors though
[Gm] Well really getting to the major was with the [Gb] California Indians in 1961 so I've [Ab] got long enough to get a couple copies
But I think we made the right [C] choice
Yeah
Charlie made some hits sold some [G] records and in
[C] 1969 [G] won the first of five straight music city news male vocalist awards and in
[Dbm] 1971 received the CMA's male [D] vocalist and [Bb] entertainer of the [G] year awards
