This is a song I wrote for my friend Jason O'Day from Menomonee, Wisconsin.
We were both tramps when I was 19 years old and he was 22, 23, I don't really remember.
We wanted to start a band and we kept saying we were going to meet in different parts of
the country to start a band and couldn't.
And I wrote this song after saying goodbye to him in Greeley, Colorado in the snow [D] in
the middle of winter.
He left to go hitchhike.
We eventually had to start a [N] band called Barefoot Surrender and he's now in [Ab] a band called [D] Intuitive Compass.

[D] [G] And your chest is aching and [A] it feels like all your [Bm] sadness is [D] burrowed [G] deep in your
[A] lungs and you're standing [Bm] bent like a [D] willow.
[G] And a friend once [A] said that I'll only [Bm] see you tomorrow, [G] [D] [G] but tomorrow's [A] gone and we're
face to [D] face in the snow.
[G] And O'Day, why does everybody I [D] know die?
[G] And O'Day, when you feel [D] lonesome so am I.
[G] And O'Day, I will bid you farewell if you [D] abide.
[A] But I [Bm] will never say goodbye.
[G] [A] I'll [D] see you on down the line.
[G] And I'll look in your eyes [A] and I'll [Bm] begin to see.
[G] [D] [G] That burning flame that [A] finds the [Bm] darkness inside.
[D] [G] And I see myself in [A] the darkness [Bm] swallowed by a sea of [D] blue.
[G] And then you turn your head and [A] you face [D] me someone new.
[G] And O'Day, why does everybody I [D] know die?
[G] And O'Day, when you feel [D] lonesome so am I.
[G] And O'Day, I will bid you [D] farewell if you abide.
[A] But I will [Bm] never say goodbye.
[Em] [A] I'll see [D] you on down the line.
