Love Is by Alana Miles.
This is a song that some of you may not know.
It was a mild hit for her in the late 80s.
I think it was her first single before she got into black velvet and got more popular.
It's a pretty cool guitar thing at the beginning.
It's actually a pretty good song I find overall.
It has some nice harmonies in it and she looks good in the video too.
So there's a couple of ways to play the opening riff.
One's up here and one's down here.
The guy in the video seems to be playing up here so I'll show you this one first.
Here's a quick run through to let you hear how it sounds.
[D] [G]
[Em] [G]
[Gm] [G] [C]
[G] [D] [C]
[G] [C] So in that opening riff [C] you're only really playing two strings.
Second string and third string.
Seventh fret here on the third.
Eighth fret here on the second.
And you have to do a lot [B] of
where you kind of lift
[D#] just gently touch the strings [G] to get that right feel.
That kind of thing.
So anyways it's here and [B] then you're putting your pinky on the tenth fret of the second string.
[D] [G]
[D] [G]
[F#] And the second time through you're just putting your ring finger here on the third string, ninth fret.
And then pulling [G] it off.
[Em] [G]
[D] [G] [Em] [G]
[D] [C] [G]
[C] [E] [Em] Now another way to play that actually is [G] to
I'll just move my camera [Em] over.
You can [G#] play the first and second strings on the third fret.
[G] And if you bar them both on the same fret, it's the same chord basically.
[G#] And you're pulling this one off and on on the fifth fret.
And then on [E] the third string, same thing.
Fifth [G] fret, off and on.
[D] [G]
[D] [G] [Em] Now as far as the verses [F#] go, it's mostly a bass and it's a G.
[Em] Third fret, sixth string.
Then [A#] fifth fret, fifth string.
That's a D.
And then move it up to [Em] an E.
[E] [G]
[E] Or if you want to get adventurous, [G#] tune your low [D] E down to D.
And then you can actually play a fifth fret, open [G] and second fret.
[D]
[D]
[G] [Am] Then just before at the end of the verse, just before they go into the chorus again,
there's [G#] some chords.
It's just a C, power chord here on the third [C] fret, up to a D.
[D]
[N] And then down to a G, third fret.
Third fret, [G] sixth string.
And it's back into the
[D#] And the other verse, I [F#] guess you'd call it,
[C] goes down one I think [G] this time to a B here on the second [B] fret.
[E] And then they go into a thing with an E and a C sharp.
So I'll just do that once.
[D]
[E]
[C#] [E]
[C#]
Okay?
[G] So that's just an E.
[E]
[E] And you start on the second fret, slide it up to the fourth,
[B]
[C#] [N] second fret of the fifth, and then you end on the power chord [E] here on the fourth.
[C#]
And then back down again, [B] [G#m] second fret, [N] fourth fret here on the fifth string, [G#] or sixth string,
[E] back to an E.
[G#m]
[E] [D] So here's the guitar solo.
Here's your fifth fret for your reference point.
[Em]
[G] [A]
[E] So we'll play that through [A] once.
[N] I just changed my strings.
I guess I should work them in a bit before I do a guitar lesson.
I should also, I guess, not drink Guinness while I'm doing a guitar lesson either.
But that's life.
Anyways, starting on the fifth fret here on the fifth string.
[D] [N] And you're going to take the fourth string here on the seventh fret, where my ring finger is,
and bend it up to this note, two frets.
[B]
[A] Second time through, you just end on that note.
[E]
So it's
[A] [E]
[D] [G] [E] [C]
[D] [F#]
[A] [D]
[G] [E] [G] You kind of give this one a bit of English.
[E] [F#] [G#] And the second time through, it's the same thing, except [N] you're ending on
back on that [E] note.
So it's
[A] [E]
[F#] Right?
Third time through, it's the same thing as [E] the first one.
[E]
And the last time
[G] [D] which is just
[A] fourth string here.
[G]
[E]
[G] And then it's [F#]
[A] [E] third string, ninth fret.
