Hi everyone, today I'm going to show you how to play the Lover's Waltz.
This is one of my favorite waltzes.
It's by Jay Unger and Molly Mason.
And if you don't know Lover's Waltz, I'm sure you know the Ashokan Farewell.
[G] And that was written by Jay Unger as well.
So, I emailed Jay and heard back from Molly,
and they gave me permission to do this.
So, I think that's very generous of them.
And I want to mention that the music [C#] is available through Mel Bay.
You can get it anywhere.
It's very easy to find.
[D#] And they have a CD out with a recording, great recording of this waltz.
And the CD is called Lover's Waltz.
It was put out by Angel Records.
And it's got really a [N] lot of neat, really good, fun tunes on it that you'll probably want to learn too.
So, just because he was so generous in letting me do this tutorial,
I just kind of want to mention that his stuff is out there and you can buy it.
[G] Alright, Lover's Waltz.
I'm going to
There's a duet.
They published a [N] duet, Violin 1 and Violin 2.
This can be played with piano or guitar.
So, for this video, I'm going to just play Violin 1.
And then, a little later, when I get another lazy day off,
I'm going to do Violin 2 and then we will merge the two and you'll be able to hear how they sound together.
So, I take a few liberties in the beginning just because that's Violin 1 all alone.
So, I'll try to get more strict as we go later into the song.
I think the first 32 bars are Violin 1 only.
Okay, so I'm going to turn the metronome on so you know exactly where I'm at in the rhythm of this piece.
I'm doing this at quarter note equals 100, which could be slower and it could be faster.
So, I'm choosing medium.
Okay, starts with a pickup.
1, 2, 3, 1, 2, ba da da da.
Okay, and I'm going to do a close-up of my left hand because the bowings are whatever you want them to be.
Throw some slurs in and try to make it so that you end up in a good part of the bow for the long notes.
So, that's the only trick and I don't want to dictate the bows to you.
So, I'm just going to show you a left up of a close-up of my left hand with the tapes on my violin
so you can see exactly what notes I'm playing, okay?
Alright, 1, [Em] 2, 3, ready, go.
