We love you more.
[B]
Thank you.
It's really nice of you folks to come see us, [A] you know, in
the middle of the day.
I hope this got you out of work or out of the [B] dentist.
Very good.
Very good.
Anything we can do to help.
[F#] You know, this last record that we recorded, it
was just really, [E] really enjoyed getting to do it because we recorded, some of the songs
that we recorded for the record are songs that I have played my entire career.
Songs
that I played really before I was playing my own songs.
And this is a song written by
a songwriter friend of mine from Houston who was a big help to me when I first started
out.
Invited me to do a guest set one time during one of his shows as a way to introduce
me to the people that owned and booked [D] an important club [E] in my life and in the lives
of a lot of performers from our area, a place called Anderson Fair Retail Restaurant.
And
this was, his name is Eric Taylor, and this is a song that he played that night that he
let me [B] sit in with him.
I started bugging him about it immediately and asked him to,
[E] I went and followed him back to the back room [D#] and made him sit down.
And [F] I think I finally
annoyed him so much that he just thought it would be easier [D#] to show it to me than to not.
So he [F#] taught it to me that night.

[B] What a pretty mystery you, you suddenly [F#] turned out to [E] be.
I [B] never held you gently, but I
want to.
[F#] [B] Well, I watch your friends come through the door and I slide my feet across the floor.
[E] There are things [B] I might ask, but I don't need to.
[C#m] Can't you tell I'm telling you [F#] that
I want to [G#m] understand you?
[B]
Well, I'm a sofa sitting, compromising thoughts on what I'm [E] realizing.
[D#m] Ask [B] me what I'm thinking.
It's hard to say, cause the way I'm reeling, it could be most anything [E] to do with [B] you.
[C#] Can't you tell I'm telling [E] you [F#] that I want to [G#m] understand you?

Some things can remain unsaid now.
You don't have to share your bed with me.
[D#m] It's a gentle [B] thing we're making.
We got the time for stronger weather.
Until we get to know us better, we [D#m]
remain [B] suspended.
[C#m] Can't you tell I'm telling you [F#] that I want to [G#] understand you?

[C#m] Can't you tell I'm [E] telling you [F#] that I want to [B] say I love you?
