_ _ _ We are singing [C] a program [Ab] of music from around the world for you this afternoon.
We have six songs and six different references.
We [Cm] begin in Africa [Db] with a Zulu folk [C] song.
This song we find some poor child has been locked out of his house
[Am] and he's imploring his aunt to please open the door because there's a ventilation.
[Dbm] _ Our solos for this [C] begin with [D] Eunice Lasso
[G] and she will be joined by Riri Dallas, [C] Shelby Warren, Anna Jones,
Maya Payne, Morgan Bradley, Sarah Hall, Savannah LeRue,
Hannah Ray [B] Wallace, and Taryn Rogers.
We move [G] from Africa to 18th century [Gb] Italy
and [C] the La Vangoste movement from the Baltese [Eb] Gloria.
Even though this piece [Bb] was scored for S.A..T.V. it was actually written for the girls of the Venetian [C] Ostodali. These were orphanages where abandoned girls were taken when they were babies. Because [Ab] the powers that be at that time believed in the value [G] of music education, they [Bb] hired the best composers [C] and best music teachers to work with the orphans and they created a world famous girls' choir in 18th century Venice. [Ab] They also have a female orchestra. Some people [D] would come from all around the world to see this famous choir and orchestra of girls. And this is one of the pieces written for them. However, it being 18th century and Venetian girls, they were [G] not allowed to sing from the [Ab] front of the church. So [Ab] they sang from the balcony behind screens so no one could see their evangelical faces. _ [A] _ We move from Italy to Spain in a Ladino [C] lullaby. This is Old Spanish mixed with a little Hebrew and we [B] find a mom rocking [Bb] her baby boy to sleep while she sings of her faith in God. From Spain we [G] move to Venezuela by way of Florida [A] and David Runners, or many of [C] his creatives, would have liked the Venezuelan tender voices. [Ab] _ From there we move to Ireland and the [Bb] next lullaby, which is [C] a Gaelic piece, and [A] we close our program with a French [Gb] Canadian song, Je Hors Le Moulin, I Hear the Billiard. [C] This is a French tongue twister where every _ line must rhyme with Jean Dan, whether it makes any [E] sense or not. So [B] _ _ [A] _ they sing, my father's built a [Ab] house of three maples, [Ab] we use three carpenters, the [B] youngest carpenter is my sweetheart, what do you [C] have in your apron? Oh, a pigeon, a pinding of pigeons. _ [Ab] Yeah. _ _ And we will sit and eat it and then they [Cm] jump up and they [Eb] create the earthquake. _ _ _ _ [C] So we hope you enjoy our international program. Thank you so much for letting us borrow your children for the last 48 hours. It's been a great privilege to stand before them and I know everyone in this room understands the [N] value of music education. So thank you so much for your generosity. _ _ _ _ _ _
