The show is Music Business Radio.
I'm your host David Hooper.
With me today, Maura O'Connell.
She's an artist on Sugarhill Records.
Her new album, Naked with Friends, is available everywhere.
Now, Maura, you mentioned Jerry Douglas, Bela Fleck, that you've collaborated with.
Those guys
have both been on the show.
They're not here today, though.
I'm going to put you on the spot,
and we're going to make you sing for us.
Okay.
Well, they won't sing.
Well, I don't know that
Bela and Jerry actually have both sang on my records over the years in harmony,
because they both produced a bunch of records for me over the years.
But yeah, I don't mind singing.
I'm a singer.
It's what I do.
That's how you can tell the pros when we call them out like this.
Well, I'll sing a song that's the funny thing.
I heard it on the radio, gosh, more than 20 years
ago, I know, because I seem to remember where I was when I was
You heard it.
It's weird.
And it blew my mind.
It was such a gorgeous and haunting melody.
And I didn't catch who was
singing it.
And there was no back announce.
And it was on a Sunday afternoon.
So I'm only guessing
it was one of those Sunday afternoon shows.
And so it stayed with me.
I remembered the first line
of the chorus.
And so I started googling it when I went to make the record and found that it was
a Holly Near song about the [Eb] the juntas in Chile in the 70s.
[E] And it's really it's about, you know,
the missing children and missing people and all that sort of stuff.
And so I kind of messed with
it a little bit.
And this is what I came up with.
I sit up a little bit.
[C] [Abm] I got to prepare myself.
I can't tune up, you [Bb] know, or I could do the national, the [Eb] redneck warm up.
Okay.
[Bb]
[E]
Hi, you know, who [N] had this
Hi, [E] you know, who had this
in Chile, in Chile, in Chile.
Hey,
and the junta knows, and the junta knows where she is.
She is dying.
Hey,
Ana Maria Espinosa, Rosa Elena Moral
Hay una mujer [N]
desaparecida
Hay una mujer desaparecida
En Chile, en Chile, [Gm] en Chile
Desaparecida en Brasil
Desaparecida en Uruguay
Desaparecida en Guatemala
Missing in El Salvador
[G]
Hay un hombre, hay un niños
[N] Oh, los niños
Hay una mujer desaparecida
Hay una mujer desaparecida
En Chile, en Chile, en Chile

You know, we've got a section of the show we call Dave's Demo Derby
Where we take bands and musicians and their music from around the world and play it
Not many of them could do it live like that
Oh, I'm sure
Or without instrumentation Oh, well
But you give me an idea, maybe we're going to have to add that to the show sometime All right
Well, that was great, and that one's on the new record
Yes, it is
And the name of it?
Hay una mujer desaparecida
See, I couldn't, no way I could pronounce that
Actually, it took me a long time to say it myself, I was only able to sing it
