It all started with the strap because I was reading an article with Steve Ray Vaughan a long time ago and
the number of 59
1959 stuck out to me for some reason and
So I started searching those out as the band got more popular and I could actually afford one
And I found that one in Los Angeles, but that's what introduced me to the whole world in 1959
and of course there's this the Holy Grail as they say of the
1959 Les Paul, which I found
From a guy named Danny Mangold he used to have a store
called Danny's music in Everett and
apparently it belonged to the
the original guitar player in Van Van Morrison's van and
It had a Belfast sticker and like and all the paperwork to go with it
And I think I traded in a few guitars for it and and paid some money and I got it for a pretty good price
And it's just been I've used it on maybe the last four records five records and I use it live all the time
I'm taking it out less and less because I'm a little more concerned about it because it's so valuable and
but the thing is is there's no other Les Paul it sounds like it to me.
It's just it's
It's a 1959.
It's something that has something to do with how the neck is and how it's been played
By other guys besides me and their sweat that's in there and and I've used it on a live for tons, you know
hundreds of times so
It's [D] it's a it's a great guitar [Ab]
and it's it's the best Les Paul I have for sure
It's a it's my first 59.
I got it because I had read somewhere like I said earlier
In our an article with Steve Ray Vaughn and he was into 59 strats and I was was and still am
Very much into his playing and him
And I got luckily got to see Stevie four times when he was alive in Seattle
He played a crazy place in Everett, which I'm not he played there paid the Paramount and then the [N] gorge twice
So I got to see him all four times
the one the one time I saw him at the gorge was
Kind of life-changing.
So there's a couple times but the first time I saw him and I was in the front row
because he was helping out for
Robert Cray and I was the only one up from the front row and I was just jumping up and down and nobody else
Everybody's sitting down.
I was like this Stevie jump up and down
It's incredible and so I think he kind of angled over and saw me and he played and I'm not sure
I'm 100% sure but in my mind's eye I wanted to think that but at any rate that's why I got this guitar
I'd use it on even flow
consistently for years, you know over 10 years 15 years probably and I just it's
And I also use III.
I've been mixing up a little bit lately, but this one's the one I use mostly
I'm and I just use this on lead better.
I use this on
For the star-spangled banner when I do it I use it on a lot of stuff
It's one of my go-to guitars though for sure for leads
It's just really easy to play and it's worn in and the next totally
Amazing and it's just trashed, you know in a good way and it's the it's the beauty of it
That's what I love about it.
I this is all of this is me picking
And knock that off.
I think this might have been here when I bought it
But I've been I've been slowly chewing away at it for years.
So yeah, 1959 Strat
I did that I put it into I put it into a speaker one time and that knocked off and I thought
So I haven't really done that again to this guitar
He's did that a lot.
Just put that that way this was given to me
By my wife Ashley for my 40th birthday
and what I love about it as
Many things I loved
Love the New York Dolls.
I love Johnny Thunders
He had one of these when they were 150 bucks probably in the early 70s and I just loved how cool it looks
You know and and how it's cracked
this one was a
I think it's a it's a it's it says a two on the back there because there was a
Think it was a it was either a reject or something with the paint.
There's a paint problem with it early on.
So they
They
They couldn't sell it or they they sold it, you know for cheaper back in the day
I don't I don't know what the deal is, but I got it from London
It was it wasn't cheap
I mean when I got it for my birthday, I was and I use it for I think I use this for mind your manners
Which is one of our new songs on the record because it's got this
Was that a p90 p90?
Hello.
You should know this stuff.
No wonder guitar player doesn't want to talk to me.
Um
But
I'm much more happy about this.
Um
This is a yeah p90 and it's just got that great sound it just
It knows how to break up and sounds tough.
So I'm kind of gearing towards more of these pickups the
These days so [B] [N] but this is a great guitar 1959 again
And you know, I just I just love that year and I don't know what it is.
It's just something about it
I even have it tattooed right here 59
So that's it.
I don't know TV yellow look good on TV in the 50s
Looked white.
I guess that's [Gm] what why they did that
[G] [F] [Bb] [F]
