[G#m] Night [B] Train, a [F#] [B]
[E]
[F#]
[B]
very basic chord progression, it's just a G.
Well I've been working on the night train, drinking coffee, [E] taking C, cocaine.
I'm [F#] out here on my night train, trying to get us quickly [B] home.
That's it, that's your song [E] basically.
At some point it'll go
[B] [E]
[F#]
[C#] [B]
[G#m] But that's just a C, [E] G, [F#] C, D.
[C#] And a little walk down
So just try and [F#] follow it.
[Em]
[C#] [B]
[E] [B]
[F#] [B]
[G#]
Right, so, the intro I guess.
The intro is a D.
But the way that I finger the D looks very bizarre.
[G#m] It's not really.
I'm just keeping my middle finger as a G on the [B] bass,
which doesn't actually come into play until you fall in for the G.
The entire intro is played in D.
[G#m] [B] So the intro, the reason I keep my finger there is just so I'm ready for it,
I'm ready as soon as I want to fall in.
[F#]
[C#] So, I made some notes here, I can't remember the names of [G] strings.
[F#] But the intro
[F#m] Your G shape, [B]
with your middle [F#] finger on the bass, is going to [G] be [F#] an open D.
[N] After the open D, you hammer on, second fret D.
[G#]
[G#m] And then it's an [F#] open G.
[C#] Oh yeah, just, unless anyone's not [D] used to fingerpicking, I don't know [B] how other people do it.
But I [F#] tend to use my thumb [B] for all of my bass strings.
[G#] And then [G#m] I use my index finger for the G.
[C#] My middle finger for the [F#] V.
And my ring finger for the E.
[B]
I don't know, other people just use two [Em] fingers, I use three.
It's, I guess, whatever comes naturally to [E] yourself when you do it.
[F#]
[C#] So, that intro.
[B] We've got open D, hammer [G#m] on, open G.
[E] From there, we're going to then hammer on a G on the second.
[F#] We're [Em] not actually hammering on.
[G#] Open, hammer.
[F#] Open, [B] hammer, open.
[G#] Second fret.
[F#] And then this, at this point, we're actually going to play on the next one.
The G and the B [Bm] together.
[C#]
[F#] As we hammer on to the fourth fret on the G string with [B] our little finger.
It doesn't work every time, your little finger's pretty shit, really, as a digit.
So, [N] sometimes it works, sometimes it'll mute the strings around it, sometimes you miss it [G#m] completely.
You just got to hope for the best, really, when you go.
[F#] [B]
[F#]
So, open, hammer.
Open.
[C#] Second fret.
And [B] then the G and the B together, for the hammer on.
And then, just the second and third fret again, the same shape.
Basically take your little finger off.
Index finger off.
Still plucking the G.
Then, second fret [F#] on the G.
[B]
And that ends it.
So, all together, it should sound
[F#]
[B]
[C#] straight
into your song.
Just in case anyone's thinking, that doesn't [E] sound like Amos Lee's version.
Yeah, because [Bm] I don't know how Amos Lee does his version.
[G#] I don't [B] know.
His is more
It's really, really
[F#] I don't know how he does it.
It's very fast, it's very smooth, it seems [G#] effortless.
[B] My fingers
[G#]
[F#] [B] Yeah, I don't know how Amos
That's why I do mine, is you want to follow that one.
[E] [B]
[F#] [B]
[E]
[F#]
[B]
[G#] Right, we'll pull in a bit [C#] closer for [B] this, because there's no point
[F#] There's no point you watching [F] a left-handed [G#] interesting throughout this video, so
I'll pull [E] the chair in.
[G] I'll have a look and see.
[G#] My hand is doing
[B]
[G#m] [G#] Right, the main thing with
[B]
kind
of [G#] country blues picking
[F#] is
your pulse.
If you don't have this down already
I've been playing guitar [E]
for
like
two years now.
[N] I've only just figured out how to do the pulse.
[B]
Which, that's all it is.
Sounds really [E] easy.
Into the [F#] C
D
Back to [B] G.
[A] Looks really easy.
If you [E] haven't done that before
If you do a bit of [F#] fingerpicking, but
You're just [G] used to
