O Come To the Altar | Official Guitar Tutorial | Elevation Worship chords
Start Jamming...
Hey, I'm Chris from Elevation Worship,
and I just wanted to show you a quick and easy way
to play the song, O Come to the Altar.
So for starters, I've got a capo on the fourth fret,
and I'm playing in the G shape.
So this song has a bit of a folky vibe to it,
so we wanted the way we're playing it
and the chords to kind of match that.
So for the top of the song on the intro,
I've got my finger here just covering
in the G shape again, covering the two G notes,
and then everything else is open.
I am muting the A string with this finger.
So I'm doing this, and then I [Abm] just have a hammer-on
on the second fret D string, and at the same time,
[E] first fret B string that I go back and forth.
So the intro [B] sounds like this.
Here's the hammer-on [E] with those two,
[B]
[E] and then it's really the same [B] thing into the verse.
So the verse sounds like this.
[E]
[B] Are you [E] hurting and broken [B] within?
Overwhelmed by the weight of your [Abm] sin?
And then there we introduce the E minor chord.
So it's just a basic E minor.
I am putting my pinky, leaving it
on the bottom E string there,
and then I move to a C [Gb] add nine.
[Abm]
So Jesus [Gb] is calling.
So the whole verse one more [B] time.
Are [E] you hurting and broken
[B] within?
[E] Overwhelmed by the weight of your sin?
[Gb] Jesus is calling.
So there's the verse.
Then [Abm] we move into the chorus,
and [B] I'm gonna use this shape for the G chord,
where I'm keeping [Db] these two fingers here on the [B] bottom.
Again, muting the A string with my middle finger.
So your first chord is a G,
[C] and then you move to the A [Dbm] minor seven,
and then I'm gonna move to an E minor [Abm] again.
It's like an E minor seven with your pinky here
on the bottom there, and then a C add nine again.
[E] So the [B] chorus is this.
O come [Dbm] to the [Abm] altar.
The Father's arms [E] are [Gb] open [B] wide.
[E] Forgiveness was bought [Abm] with
the precious blood [Gb] of Jesus [B] Christ.
Back into your [E] verse.
[B]
Cool, and then we move to the bridge,
and the bridge is pretty simple as well.
Again, you're gonna use this same G shape
that you started the song with,
and it just has this suspension.
On the top of the bridge, it goes like this.
And it moves to an E minor chord,
[Abm] and I'm now playing my E minor
with the D string muted [A] on my middle finger,
and I'm using this same index finger
to have the suspension there again on [E] the B string.
[Abm]
And then I move to my C add [Gb] nine to finish it out.
So the bridge sounds like this, [B] just the guitar.
[B]
[Abm]
[Gb]
[E] Oh, [B] what a Savior.
Isn't [Abm] he wonderful?
[E] Sing hallelujah.
[Gb] Christ is risen.
[B]
So that is pretty [Abm] much the entire song,
the three sections that you would need to know
to play this song all the way through.
Hope this has been helpful,
and I hope you're able to use that.
Thanks for watching.
