Overcoming beat block and making a fire track in FL Studio chords
Start Jamming...
I've been having some [Gbm] pretty intense creative blocks lately, where I can't seem to come
up with any ideas, and the ideas that I do come up with just don't feel good enough to me.
If you're a creator, you've likely experienced this sort of thing yourself, and you know
first hand how frustrating [Em] it can be.
[Gb] Luckily for me though, I got an email a [G] while back from [Gbm] Sample Chefs wanting to sponsor
a video, and about a [G] week ago they sent me their Canary Jewels MIDI Collection Volume 1.
I figure what I'll do today is just pick a random MIDI file from the pack, and try
to turn it into a song, since right now my [Gbm] melodies just aren't doing the trick for me.
[Bm] Here's some quick info [D] on the pack.
It includes over 400 original [G] melodies, chord progressions, and counter [Db] melodies.
They're [Gbm] all separated into different musical scales and vibes, with recommended instruments
and tempo to play them with.
It includes a royalty free license for all of the MIDI files, and it comes with bonuses,
[Bm] like an Omnisphere preset pack, and an [Gbm] FL Mixing preset for vintage samples.
For a [B] limited time, the pack is discounted from $200 [Em] to $30.
[A] Let's get into the cook up.
I have FL keys [D] loaded here, [G]
and I'm going to just pick a random melody from the Dark
Trap [D] Melodies folder.
[Eb] [Db]
[B] [Bbm]
[Eb] [Db]
[B] [Bbm]
[Eb] Alright, this'll work.
[Cm]
I opened up these keys in [Eb] Omnisphere, and I'm going to start [Gm] separating the different
layers of the melody into different sounds, so [G] first I'm going to cut and [Eb] paste this melody into Omnisphere.
[Dbm] [Abm]
[Bb]
[Ebm] [Ab] I want to make [Cm] a few minor alterations to the melody.
[Gm]
[Cm] Here's what the melody sounds like [Eb] now.
[Ebm] [Bb] [F]
[Eb] [Db]
[Eb]
I pulled up this patch in Omnisphere.
Now I'm going to cut and paste the chords.
[Db]
[B] [Db]
[Eb] [Db]
[B] [Db]
[Cm] I'm layering the chords with keyscape and turning the volume way [Gm] down, because I want
it to just sit in the background and fill up a little more space in the mix.
Here's [C] what it sounds like.
[Eb]
[Bbm]
[F] [Db]
[Eb] [Bbm]
[F] [Bbm]
[Cm] Lastly, we're going to cut and [Eb] paste the bass.
Again, I'm going [Gm] to have to make a few minor adjustments here.
[Cm] [Eb]
Here's what I came up with.
[Abm]
[Bb] [B]
[Bb] [B]
[Db] [Eb]
And here's what everything sounds like together so far.
[B]
[Bbm] [B] [Db]
[Eb] [Bbm]
[B] [Db]
[Eb]
I laid down a snare.
[N]
I made this hat pattern.
I added a kick.
I laid down an open hat.
Here's what the drums sound like all together.
[Em]
[Cm] And here's what the beat sounds like.
You'll notice that I did a high and [Gm] low cut automation with an EQ in the intro section
of the beat.
That's just a stylistic [F] choice [Eb] on my part.
[B] [Bbm]
[B] [Db]
[Ab] [B] [Bbm]
[B] [Bbm]
[Ab] [B] [Bbm]
[B] [Db]
[Ab] [B] [Bbm]
[B] [Bbm]
Now [Ab] [B] [Db]
[D] it's time to write some lyrics.
I'm getting some Poo-ya or funk type vibes from the track so far for some [A] reason.
So I'm going to have to take it in that direction with the vocals.
[D] Although the actual content [A] of the lyrics will be more personalized to me [D] specifically,
rather than trying to emulate that sort of thing exactly.
My vocal mixing is the same as always, of course.
[Gbm]
And with all of that out of the way, let's see what we've come up with.
[Eb] [B] [Db]
[Bbm] [Bm] [Db]
[F] [Db]
[Bbm] [B] [Db]
[Ab] [Db]
[Bbm] [B] [Bbm]
My mama told me [F] to be willing and expose all [Db] the foes.
I grew up on [B] brandless bologna, sandwiches and [Bbm] the codeine.
Grandmama [Ab] smoking, hotboxes of Buick with constant [Db] pollution.
My baby brother [B] asthmatic, panicking, coughing [Db] and puking.
Constant rebuking [Eb] from my pops has got my confidence [Db]
ruined.
It's got me awkward [B] at school and students got comments [Bbm] and rumors.
I'm probably [Ebm] going to lose it.
My mind has started to race a [Bbm] lot.
Crazy thoughts [F] inside of my brain.
I can't really make it [Bbm] stop.
Don't [Eb] think it's made up, cause I'm not like I'm a fucking [Bbm] nerd.
As real as the pain is [B] from my hunger, made my stomach [Db] hurt.
[Abm] [Bbm]
[B] [Bbm]
[Eb] [Bbm]
[B] [Db]
[Ebm] [Bbm]
