[Bbm] [C] [G] Welcome to [N] the After the Show Show.
Patty Loveless is here along with her great band, family as we call it.
Where did half of them go?
A couple of them, I think they had to go take a nap.
Seriously?
A little early this morning.
You guys were up at 3 o'clock.
You don't want to play your next tune?
Guys, we're still doing a show over here.
These guys will do just fine.
Okay. Trust me.
You got two fiddles on this one.
Right.
If you count the big one.
Very nice.
A lot of strings.
That's an interesting bass string.
Is it true that when you were a little girl, I read this on Country Music website, that
you were so afraid or a little shy, afraid of crowds, that you would sing to company,
but you would only sing to them if you could sing from the other room?
Right.
My mother would invite family over, our cousins, just anybody she could drag into the house
to hear her daughter sing.
was so shy that I would run and hide behind, well, not behind, but beside the refrigerator.
I just felt comfortable there in the kitchen.
You would sing from the kitchen?
Then I would sing as loud as I could from the kitchen.
They'd be in the living room.
I wouldn't have to see, but I'm looking at you now.
That's not a bad idea, that you have to sing louder, right?
How did you overcome that?
Gosh, that's a good question.
She does it.
Let's go to the heart of the matter over here for the real truth.
How did she overcome it?
She knows me very well.
She's been with me for about 11, 12 years now, so she knows me well.
You know, honestly, if you don't get excited about it, yeah, you still, but you've got
to have that excitement in order, because that's what encourages you and inspires you
to put your voice into the music.
Now, during our cable show, you were talking a little bit about the fact that you are a
coal miners daughter.
Your dad took you to the Pollyanna Drive-In for your first taste of live music.
You thought that you were going to see a movie.
Like Loretta Lynn, your father was a coal miner, but you mentioned a COPD, and that's
an issue close to your heart.
Right.
That's something else I've been working with lately.
I didn't know what COPD stood for until I got involved.
Boy, I just
I look back on the year, 1996.
My sister, she passed away with emphysema.
She was only 48 years old.
An amazing singer, a wonderful singer.
We used to love to sing together and make music together.
To lose her at such an early age, and she
emphysema is one form of COPD, which stands
for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
I said it so fast early on.
Another form of it is chronic bronchitis.
So many people know, but to find out more information about it, if you go to Drive,
the number four, COPD.com, they have a lot of information there.
You can take a screener, five questions, I've done it, and to see if you might be at risk for this.
If you do, just take the results to your doctor in your own personal time.
We actually had Bruce Jenner on the show when they kicked off that Drive campaign earlier,
just maybe about a month ago or so.
So Bruce definitely, he was so [Dm] informative out there, and he was very helpful.
And Balushi, right?
And Balushi was here as well.
And Balushi was here as well.
Okay, well yeah, yeah, because now that I think about it, we were in New York back in
February, [Eb] but it's just
Well, thanks for stopping by.
She's stopped by now.
I had a conversation.
[N] Oh, thank you.
And a lot of your fans said, hey, we loved that kind of voice and tone you had when you
did Mountain Soul.
And so now you're doing Mountain Soul too.
I am, and this song that I'd like to do for you now is a song that Emmylou Harris and
Paul Kinnelly wrote together.
And Emmylou Harris, everybody knows who the great Emmylou is, and I adore her.
She did come in and sing on this particular song, but of course we couldn't have Emmylou
here today, so I have to do it without her, and I hope I do a good job.
All right, so ladies and gentlemen, here she is, Diamond in the Crown by Patti Loveless.
Check it out on Mountain Soul 2.
We'll get out. Okay.
