Talking of music, old music and new music, So Beautiful So What is charting alongside
people like Lady Gaga.
What do you think about that?
What do you think of Lady Gaga?
Do you
think we've come so far now, these days everything's very different from how you did it?
[Ab]
You know
[Gm] I think that's Lady Gaga.
[N] She has something to say about it as well.
Are you a Lady Gaga fan?
Her style of music, the fact that it's not just about music, it's
the package, it's everything now, it's how you look, it's how you market yourself.
Yeah I think that's the definition of, that's a description of Lady Gaga.
I find that as
an entertainer, her ability to make people interested in what she does, that's pretty
skillful and all the looks that she comes up with, there's a lot of thought that goes
into that.
But that takes me just so far, as far as entertainment for me.
And when it
comes to a musical level, it's not that different really from other music.
So it's sort of more
about the show than it is about the music.
And really it's so beautiful or so what is
the anomaly in this particular top ten.
Because most of popular music is about performance
and not about songwriting in the sense of songwriting that came out of the 60s really,
an album making that came out of the 60s.
I would say it sort of started with probably
Sgt.
Pepper or maybe later in the era.
So Sgt.
Pepper and bringing it all back home,
and the Stones albums, the Jimi Hendrix albums, into Stevie Wonder, into [Ab] Bridge Over Trouble Water
would be in there.
That was quite a good one.
Thank you.
So that was a lot about experimenting
with music and sounds and orchestration and writing in a musical form.
And [N] now the interest
is not so much in that form as it is in rhythm.
Well, storytelling I guess is still there in hip
hop, but it's not particularly
it's not storytelling that has anything to do with me.
So when I do listen to it, okay, that's from another
that's another generation, as it
should be, and another culture.
And so I'm interested, and when it's really done well,
I think they're good.
But otherwise, I just as soon listen to music from Molly or listen to Hank
Williams from the 1950s or listen to a new piece by Philip Glass or Steve Reich or something more
like that, or this music, this R&B music from the late 40s to the 50s.
I'm more interested in that
than I am in [A] what's being
[C]
