[Am] My newest record is called McGuire's Landing and it's a concept album.
So, I remember back in the 70s, you know, Tommy and all those great records and
and Desperado that the Eagles did.
I mean, but this one isn't so much with songs as it is with music.
And I wrote a short story that goes with the album.
It's about a 50-page short story and it traces a guy named S.
McGuire
who came to America from Ireland back in 1865.
And he came here to find his place that he dreamed of,
which was a place in the great American West.
And, of course, he finds it.
You know, everything works out great, but he has some trials and tribulations along the way.
And the whole idea of this came back when I was working with John Denver,
back in 1995 or 6.
I'd written this tune that I called McGuire's Landing.
And he heard it and he said, what's this tune about?
I said, it's not really about anything.
It's just a little tune.
He goes, no, it's about something.
What were you thinking when you wrote it?
So I told him what I was thinking about and he said, I love this.
I want to write the lyrics.
Well, unfortunately, he passed away and didn't get the chance to.
But it kind of kept mulling around in the back of my mind over the years.
And as I would write tunes that I thought might go nicely with this one,
[Gb] I'd put them aside.
And I had a lot of it recorded.
Then I had a stroke and heart failure.
Then I got back to recording again after I started to recover from that stuff.
And [G] it turned out to be quite a massive project [B] for me.
I mean, I had a full string section on a lot of the tunes.
I had a great singer from here in L.A. named Molly Weaver,
who sang a couple of the songs on it.
Herb Peterson, great banjo player, sang and played banjo on it.
Andrea Zahn, who plays fiddle with James Taylor, played on this record.
Byron House, who plays bass for Rodney Crowell and Robert Plant and Emmylou Harris.
Just a really star-studded, from my perspective, star-studded arrangement of players.
Anyway, the tune I'm going to play for you is called Maguire's Landing.
This is the one that started this whole project.
