_ [G] Hey there everybody, welcome back to HD piano Jeff here [F] today.
We're gonna [D#] be learning a piano classic
[Cm] This [F] is gonna be [D#] December 1963.
_ Oh
What a night by Frankie Valli in the four seasons and we're [C#] gonna be learning the verse part which sounds like this _ _
_ _ [F#] _ _ _ [G#] _ _ _
_ _ [C#] _ _ _ _ _ [G#] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [C] All right, really nice piano part to learn there.
I'm gonna be hanging out kind of low on the keyboard
Okay, so here's our middle C and we're gonna be pretty much in this area
Okay, so towards the lower half of the keyboard
We're gonna learn this one
Hands [C#] together and I'm just gonna show you the notes of every chord and then we're gonna talk about the rhythm
so our first chord is
_ This D flat major triad with a D flat in the bass [F] and an F _
[C#] _ and a D flat in the right hand _ _
_ _ _ _ next [D#m] chord
It's an E flat [D#] minor 7 E flat in the [D#m] left _
_ G flat and D flat in the right _
Notice how we keep that top voice the same _ _
[C#] third chord
_ _ This is a D flat over F [F] F in the left hand _
_ A-flat D flat in the right and _ _ _ then we get [F#] to
_ _ G flat
G flat in the left G flat B flat D flat in the right. _ _
[C#] We're halfway through.
So let's review those chords _
Here's our first chord
_ D flat moving [D#m] up E
Flat minor 7 _ _ _
[C#] _ D flat over F _ _ _
[F#] _ G flat which we're gonna play
twice and _ _ [C#] our rhythm nice and slow is this
_ _ _ _ _ [F#] _
_ _ _ Okay, so the counting there is 1 e [D#m] and 2 [C#] and [F#] 3 and 4 _
Try that a couple times [C#] with me 1 e and [C#] 2 and [F#] 3 and 4
[C#] _ 1 2 3 [F#] and 4
1 [D#m] e and [C#] 2 and 3 and 4 _
_ _ Nice, that's the first half _
the second half
Sounds like this
_ [Fm] _
_ [G#] _ _ [G#] _ _ _ _ _
Okay, so our first chord of [F#] the second half is also a G flat, but we're doing an inversion of it
So we were down here.
We're just going to invert the chord
_ Like that.
So our left hand stays on that [G] G flat.
Our right hand [F#] is now B flat D flat G flat _
_ _ _ _ We're gonna play that chord twice
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [C#] _
_ Now we're gonna play a D flat over a flat that means a flats in our left hand [G#] D flat chord is in our right hand
So a flat in the left [C#] a flat D flat F in the right _ _
_ _ _ Then we have our [G#m] first single note of this part E flat
_ _ _ _ [D#] _
Just the right hand by itself playing that E flat
[G#] _ _
Then we're gonna get to this cool sounding chord, which is a [F#] G flat chord over [G#] a flat a
Flat in the left [F#] G flat B flat D flat in the [G#] right and _ _ _ _ then we're gonna go to another [D#] single
E-flat _ [F#] so those notes for that second part again are
_ two G flat chords _ _
_ _ [C#] _ _ _ _ D flat over a flat to [D#] a single E flat
[G#] to G flat over a flat [D#] to single E flat _ _ and the rhythm is going to sound like [F#] this _
_ _ [C#] _ _ [G#] _ _ _ _
_ That [F#] rhythm is 1 e and a [C#] 2 and 3 [G#] and 4 [D#] and _ _
[F#] again 1 e and a [C#] 2 and 3 [G#] and 4 and _ _ _ _ _
[F] Let's try the whole thing at that slow tempo
_ 3 4
[C#] 1 e and a 2 and [F#] 3 and 4 1 e and [C#] a 2 and 3 [D#] and 4 [C#] and
_ _ _ [F#] _
_ _ _ _ _ [C#] _ _ [G#] _
_ _ _ _ Nice.
All right.
[C#] Let's try it a little faster 3 _ 4
[D#m] _
[C#] _ _ [F#] _ _ _ and [C#] 2 and 3 and [G#] 4 and 1 e and a 2 and [F#] 3 and 4
1 e [C#] and a 2 and 3 and [G#] 4 and
_ _ Finally up to studio [C#] tempo 3 4
_ _ _ [F#] _ _ _
_ [C#] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[F#] _ _ _ _ _ [G#] _ _ [C#] _
_ _ _ _ All right, excellent work everybody.
