Hey y'all.
[G] Today we're gonna try to explain something that I guess I haven't
explained very well in comments and answers to questions but the idea of it
is how pitch and fingerings will change you know depending on how you tune it.
[C] So yesterday we did Proud Mary and that was with in D fingering [Bb] so it was
[G] [Bb]
[G] [Gm] [Fm] [Eb]
[C]
and that was that was the way I guess Tom played [Gm] it but [D] John was actually
doing it with E shapes so he was [Gm] tuned down from regular standard tuning every
[C] string he went down to D, A went down to G, D went down to C.
They all went down so now
when he [D] plays an E it [Dm] sounds like Tom's D [B] which would [D] sound like this but it's
actually Tom would be playing it here but it would sound like this.
Those are both [N] E but sound like D's right because everything is tuned down.
So you can play exactly the same song which now [C] would go [A] and [C] [A] [C] [G] [F]
[D] [Gbm] you can [C] play with
E shapes and it's gonna sound exactly like the version that's that Tom played
with D fingers because he was tuned up.
His D [Dm]
is John's [G] E right and in fact if
you listen really closely you [D] can hear [Eb] that [Gb] note which
[D] is the giveaway that
that Tom, the one of the guitars, is playing it in regular standard pitch
because [Gb] you hear that which he would [A] be playing here but [D] it sounds like that but
you can also hear that string which is John's.
So I'm gonna try to run through it without
messing it up.
[G] I haven't really run through with these fingerings but I'm
gonna try to [N] transpose it in my mind as we go along.
We'll see how that goes.

[Dm] [A] I'm a real bum
[Fm] So [Db] I was wasting [Eb] everything I knew Oh shit
Now [F] I saw a blood-stained city
Do I hit the ground real low Weep
Repeat before the place
Never keep on going Goin'
Goin'
Goin'
[N] Goin'
You can kind of get a feel for they sound the same but they don't look anything like
each other except for the solo parts are just two frets apart.
So I hope that is
helpful in terms of just grasping the whole idea of you know pitch being
relative.
So good
