Here's the basic tutorial for a great old tune called Red Wing.
Everybody can play this one.
Everybody knows this one.
You can play this one really simple or you can jazz it up as you will see once you hit
the advanced tutorial.
Red Wing is in the key of G and it starts so that's just some G arpeggio notes.
Open D, pick up note on an up bow, then to 3 on D, play that three times and then it's
1 on A, 3 on A.
[Bm]
We play this.
[C]
[C#] [Bm] So that's 1 on A, 2 on A and it's a low 2 because we're in the key of G.
Then open E, 2 on E, open E and then 3 on A is your last note for this phrase.
[C] [C#]
[G] Let's take it right from the beginning.
[C] [Bm] [G]
Okay, now the next two notes I slur on an up bow, it's 3 and 1 on A.
Here's the advanced tutorial for Red Wing.
We taught a very, very basic version over in the basic tutorial and now there's all
kinds of stuff we can do with it.
So the way it was taught over in the basic tutorial, it's more of a single note, simple little tune.
The way I play it most times, I add a lot of notes in there and it just kind of makes
it more into a reel or a polka than just kind of like the simple little tune that it really is.
So this is a great tune for jam sessions for beginners and advanced alike.
So you can do it whenever you want, as little or as much as you want.
So I'm going to just jump right in and get started playing.
I'll do a little bit of the first part and see where it takes us.
[C] [Bm]
[D#m] Alright, so if you remember [G#] the melody, it was [G] simply
Okay, so we're still playing with the melody.
There's no mistaking we're playing Red Wing.
But I did
[C]
[Bm] Okay, so what I did there was I started with a scoop on the D string, open 1, 2, 3.
[G]
And all of that was on a down bow.
And I did two up bows, 3, 2.
And then just kind of ran up the scale from the G, from the 3.
And I slid into that third finger on the A.
And then I do a little triplet [Bm] here.
I'm doing 1, 2, 3, 2 on A, all on a down bow.
