Hey everyone out there in Vanderbilly .com.
This is a new B3 fan.
This song is Revival by the Allman Brothers off of the Idlewild South disc going back to 1970.
Had a request for this one and so I wanted to get it up here.
That intro part that I just showed you, well it's really the beginning of the intro.
There are several parts to the intro before the verse comes in.
And that's the first part and that's a two part guitar harmony.
There's lots of two part harmony here in this song.
What I want to do is show you both parts of most everything in this song.
So here we go.
So again the intro, actually the intro before that guitar part is an acoustic guitar.
Which I'm not going to break that out but I'll give you a sense of the chords for it at the beginning.
So what that acoustic part is at the beginning, just for four bars as a pickup before the two guitars come in, is it goes like [A] this.
[E]
[A] So all that is is A.
And then I'm playing [E] A with a D in the bass.
So [F#m] that's, [D]
[A] instead of playing the D chord [D] like this, [A] you play the A open string and then your fourth finger [A#] is here on the F sharp note [A] on the fourth [G#m] fret fourth string.
[F#] So it's a [D] triad, one string [F#] lower for the D.
[D] Instead of the F sharp up [F#] here, it's here.
[C] And then the other two [F#m] notes is the rest of the D chord.
[D] [A] Namely the A note [D] and the D note.
[D#] So that makes a [A] nice sound, you go A and then [G] you hammer on, [A]
[D]
that's a D with an A in the bass.
[A]
[E] Then E.
[A] [B] Back to A.
And then it comes in with the solo work.
[G] So the beginning pickup [G#m] solo goes like this.
Again, it's a two part harmony.
So the top [N] part, which is played on the treble pickup, the bridge pickup, starts on [G] the D [Bm] note, which is seventh fret [B] of the G string or the third [Em] string.
[N] And you pull off 7-5 to 7.
[Am]
[N] And then fifth fret of the second [E] string [N] to eighth fret, slide to [G] 10.
So the whole thing slowly.
[Am] [Em]
[A]
[E] [N] And then you repeat.
[Am] [Em]
[N] And instead of sliding, you play these two notes.
You slide or hammer in 5 and to 6 on the [C#m] G.
[A]
[N] So the whole pattern is, [Am]
[Em] [A] [Am]
[Em] [C#m]
[Bm] and then [Am] repeat.
[Em]
[A] [Am]
[C#m]
[N] The last part of the top part of this intro is first string fifth [A] fret.
[Em]
[F] [E]
[F] [Em] [A] [E]
[N] That last note is a B note, third string [B] fourth fret.
[N] So again, start on your high A note on your fifth fret, [E] first string.
[A]
[E] [Em] Eighth fret, second string.
And then [Fm] [E]
8 [Em]-6.
[F]
[Em] 4.
[F] [Em]
[A] [E]
[A] [Em] [Fm]
[Em]
[G] Okay, that's the top part of the intro.
The bottom part of the intro is played with a warmer tone.
[C#m] So I'm going to the neck pickup.
[N] And it's the same exact rhythm.
Obviously, it's a unison harmony here.
So instead of starting [Bm] on this note,
[Am] you [A]
[N] start down a string.
And you go here, seventh fret of the D string or fourth string.
[E]
[Am] [D] So [E]
that's the first move.
[Am] [D] [E]
7-5-7 [N] to G string, 5-7 and then slide to [C] 9.
[Em] [E]
[A] [Em] [Am]
[D] [E]
[A] [C] [G]
[A] So the [Em] second time around, you hammer from 5 to 7 on the D string, fourth string.
[A]
Then you repeat that.
[Em] [E]
[Am] [G] [A]
Okay, the last [G#m] part of it is ninth fret of the third [Em] string to 7.
And then 7 to 5.
[C]
[E] [C] 4-5-7-9.
[Em] [E]
And then 7 on the fourth string to 7 on the fifth string.
[C] [E] [A] [E]
[Am] [E]
[Am] [Em] [A]
[C] [D] [A]
[C] [Em] [A]
[E] [C]
[B] [C] [E] [A] [E]
[N] That's it.
That's the beginning part of the intro.
Then it goes into some octave playing.
And I'll go into that next.
