[G] [B] So that was the intro to In Loving Memory.
First, let's go over the tuning for that.
So if you were in standard tuning, and all these things I'm doing today are
based off of standard tuning.
I'm not playing it like it's on the record.
You would have to tune this whole thing down a whole step from where I'm at, but for the ease of
you practicing at home today, everything I'm going to do is based off of standard.
From standard, [G] if you take your E string and go down to D like a normal drop D,
then you move up to your A string.
I grab my G string
and grab my A string and tune the A string down to G.
And then I go up to my high E string and tune that in unison with [D] the D string.
So what you have there is
the top [G] five strings all sound nice open together.
And then on the bottom two strings you have a traditional power chord.
So you can move that power chord around.
[Eb] So I'll run through that for you real slow so we can kind of pick it [D] apart.
[C]
[G]
[D]
[C]
[G] [D] [C]
[G]
So, mainly you're just grabbing the shape of, you're on the same fret of the A and the B [D] string.
You're grabbing the seventh fret.
I'm grabbing both notes at the same time, hitting an open G and then pulling off
A to 7 on the B string.
Going [C] down a whole step.
Kind of doing the same thing, but this time I'm doing a whole step on my B string.
Opening that B string and then helping [G] the G string.
Open A string and then you're doing this little
The hardest part in this piece is doing this move right here.
So I practice that.
[D] [C] So I'm [G] going up and grabbing the seventh fret of the A and the G string.
[E]
[B] Just sliding it up a [Em] whole step.
[B] Going back to that fifth shape pattern where it's 5 on both the A and the B string.
And then going [Bm] up [G] a whole step.
Open A string and 12 on the B string.
So just 12, 10 and 9.
And then 12 on the B string.
And then 13, 12 and 10.
The next time it does the same [C] thing, but you're just going to [G] go
Just end right there.
That's what I do live on the record.
[D]
[G] I've got the 7th, 8th and 9th fret on the G, B and E.
Pulling off 10 to 9 on the E string and then just
Doing a natural harmonic on the 12th fret of the B [D] and E.
And then going down the 7th fret.
So one more time, let's play this at full speed.
