[C] Here's the pride of Corpus Christi, Texas, [E] Mr.
Roger
Crager, with a live performance of the title track of one of his
[A] biggest albums, Long Way to Mexico, right here on the Texas
music [E] scene.
Long Way to Mexico is, I had written [A] the chorus,
[G] oh God, a long time ago.
It was when I [A] first graduated from
college, and I moved to Houston, and I was stuck in traffic.
All I could think about was heading south, calling up some
buddies and saying, meet me in Laredo, meet me in Matamoros,
somewhere, we're going to go [E]
drink margaritas and beer like
we did on [A] spring break, and get me anywhere but out [D] of this
traffic.
[A] And so, I had this idea, and I used to [E] kind of just
play around with it, and then [A] years later, a good friend of
mine, Jeremy Elliott, songwriter buddy of mine, [E] we wrote the
verses to that song.
And I can remember [A] the first time that we
played that, [D] it was back [A] when me and Pat Green and Robert Earl
Keene and [E] Waybo and all of us used to still play at the Corona
Club [A]
over in Acuna.
And I thought, you know, I played it for
another buddy of [D] mine, and he goes, oh my God, [A] is Long Way to
Mexico, [E] every show you ever [C#] do from now on in Acuna is going to
[E] be sold out.
And we did one, and then they started killing each
[A] other down there, and we haven't been back since.
So he was right.
[G]
One, two, one, two, three.
There's a warm breeze blowing [C]
from the south, so I need to get
going, [G] the palm trees and beaches call my [D] name.
[G] There's a bar
that I know well there, [C] we could drink and breathe in the Sierra
[G] Lane, the [D] sun, the sand, [G] and the rain.
[D] Got a place where [C] everyone
[D] knows your name.
[G]
Sound music on the stereo, [Em] blue bonnet on the
passing road, [F] it's [C] Long Way to [D] Mexico.
[Bm] Going there tonight,
[G] time to migrate is up, [Em] I'm doing 90 in this pickup [F] truck, Long
[C] Way to [D] Mexico.
Here we go.

behind, [D] lonely for a [G] while, we could just get a roll in, see [C] the
winding road unfolding, [G] feeling better with every passing mile.
[D] But even [G] the kid in there makes [D] me [G] smile.
Sound music on the
stereo, [Em]
wildflowers on the passing road, [F] it's [C] Long Way to [D] Mexico.
