[Ab] Gadola Donai was a song [C] that was written at the turn of the year, at the [Gb] beginning of 2014, [Bb] on New Year's Eve.
[G] I [Gb] woke up that morning and I [F] had this sentence [C] that I love to sing a lot in spontaneous worship.
[F] And it says, [Bb] Gadola [Gb] Donai umehulal [F] me'od, which means,
[C] Great is the Lord and greatly to [F] be praised.
It's [C] kind of a passion of my heart that [Cm] God be [Fm] praised, that he be lifted up and he be [C] worshipped.
And [F] so I had [Bb] this line [G] just going round again and again in my head and as the morning wore on, [C] it just didn't [Bb] leave.
And that evening I was leading [C] worship for [Bb] New Year's Eve, kind of bringing [Cm] in the new year with worship.
And so [Dm] I said to God, [C] OK, [F] if I'm going [C] to sing this song [Bb] tonight, I need to finish this song by the evening when I [Ab] need to leave.
So [C] just [A] went about the regular house [G] stuff and making lunch for [C] the kids.
[Bb] And as time wore on, [C] I would just write another sentence, another sentence as I was going through.
And finally it was [F] about three o'clock and the [Fm] song wasn't finished.
And I'm like, OK, God, I'm leaving by six.
I need to finish this [F] song by then.
And it started with this first line, which is from Psalms.
And then I was just reflecting on what God had done.
And it says in Psalm 43, I will come before your throne and the God of my joy.
And I just thought, and I'll give you the fruit of my lips, which is [Fm] praise.
And remember all the things that [Bb] you've done for me in this year.
And as I was just [G] thinking of this [C] [Bb]
theme, that God is to be praised,
I thought again about the worship in [F] heaven and the book of Revelation, which is a [Bb] favorite source for me to write from.
[C] And just looking at that heavenly scene [Dm] of that [C] amazing worship where they ring [Gb] out in this chorus.
[Bb] So just opened up towards the end [G] of the book of Revelation [C] and looking at chapters [Bb] 19 and 21,
where [Dm] there's this heavenly [C] scene of worship [Bb] and just this [Dm] [C] [Bb] big line that they all sing.
It says, you know, [Cm] Hallelujah for the Lord God [C] Almighty reigns.
And so that [F] kind of became the chorus of the song and [Cm] went back to [Dm] the psalm for [C] just at the very [Dm] end,
kind [C] of literally maybe 10 minutes before I'm leaving, [Bbm] finished that [Bb] song.
And so went there that night [F] and started [Fm] to sing the song.
And to my [D] amazement, the people that [Cm] were in the room just [C]
[Dm] sang the song as [C] if they knew it already.
And I thought, wow, [Bb] that's amazing that somehow this melody was true to them,
even [Gb] though they'd never heard the song [F] before.
And [Fm] I had the privilege [Gm] [D] to be able to sing this song [Cm] a little while later in a concert in [F] Jerusalem, at [Bb] Messianic worship.
And from that, [Gm] it just took off.
I mean, [G] people really resonated with it to my [Bb] amazement.
And it's gone around the world and [Bbm] back and being [G] translated into all kinds of languages and [F] just [Bb] beyond my expectation.
I think that people [Gm] resonate with it because [G] it's kind of this anthem [Bb] of praising God
and declaring that he [Gm] is the King of Kings and he is Lord of Lords, [Bb] he reigns.
So for us, it's just always [Gm] this song that really takes over the room when we use it [Bb] in worship.
And it's been fantastic to see [F] everything that God has done.
And it's kind of fulfilled itself because [Dm] of this line that says,
[C] that I will come before his throne and give him the fruit of my lips.
And I remember everything [Bb] that he did was kind of a prophetic statement before anything [Gb] really, really ever happened.
[F] So it's the song that opens [D] the Pure Heart album and just sets really the tone [C] of that beginning statement of the worship [Bb] here on earth and the worship in heaven.
