Hi, I'm Sharon Bennett and this is what's in [Dbm] my bag.
It's not because I always hold on, it [Abm] might be I always [Dbm]
hold out.
[E] It might be [Abm] I [Dbm] always hold out.
This is [N] Nightlands.
[Bb] This is a side project of Dave Hartley from the War on Drugs.
It's like electronic and really beautiful scapes and everything, but it's [F] also [Bb] really driving.
Apparently he's got a new [G] one almost [B] done.
Awesome.
I'll [D] get that one next.
[Dm] This [E] is San Francisco's own Wooden Ships.
[G]
I just [F] love the distortion sounds [A] and I've been looking [G] for this record for a while.
[E] It's good [Am] stuff.
[G] [Am]
I'm
[Bm] going to start with some newer stuff.
I grabbed the little Calihan record, Apocalypse.
[Gbm]
I'm a big fan of his writing and all of his records actually, but I don't have this one on vinyl yet.
I drove all the beast down right under your nose.
Lumbering footloose power, the bull and the [Bm] road.
[Cm] The newest thing I got was [G] Sade, Soldier of Love.
[Gm]
I don't [D] own this one.
I've had friends turn me [E] on to it a few [C] different times, but I've never actually [Bb] bought it.
[D] Finally [E] going to break down and buy this today.
[Gm] I am the money but I don't doubt.
[Cm]
So I ride and I have the room [Eb] to survive.
[N] Tinder Sticks.
I really love how he sings because it's like he's talking to you.
He's a romantic, but he's also kind of a fuck up.
He just has a really beautiful, comforting [A] way of speaking to you when he sings.
I [Gbm] have been living through some of the [A] more decay.
This is a John Fahey [Dm] 12 inch on Table of the Elements.
I love John Fahey, [F] like just acoustic fingerstyle guitar, but I also love Table of the Elements.
The whole idea of like a finite label that [D] has an M, I think it's pretty genius.
[Gb] It's pretty [D] genius.
[A]
[F] [Am]
[D] [Dm]
[N]
This is Ty Segal.
That back cover's amazing.
Oh yeah, I should show the back cover too.
[D] [C] He's a [G] total joker and his music is a lot of fun.
[F]
[C]
[G] And [F]
[C] I like rocking out [Gm] to it in the car when we're driving [Bb]
and when I'm [Em] home cleaning.
[Ab]
[G] He's just kind of a badass and he's funny at the same time.
I picked up this Michael Hurley record.
[A] He lives in [D] Oregon too, I think on the Oregon coast in [A] Astoria.
Doesn't he [D] do the art?
I think so, [Gb] which is, they're all really [Gbm] great [Bm] actually.
[G] There's another one, that Blue Hills one up [Gbm] there.
[E] They're all like really [F] colorful [G] and have [A] cartoon characters.
[G]
Oh, [A] sweet elusive,
[G] oh, sweet elusive, [D] let me go.
[N] This one is a gamble, but I [Gbm] love the [Am] Numera group, all the records that they [Em] put out.
And this [Am] is a Catherine Howe record and my wife is a singer and songwriter as well.
And this [N] reminded me of sort of how they described it, [C] sort of what she kind of does.
[B] So I [E] think it will be really good.
[Fm] It's got a lot [E] of beautiful voice.
[F]
[C]
Damien Jurado's [N] Marcopa, which is a early contender for my [Gm] personal favorite record of the year this year.
[G] It's [Ab] amazing.
I've [D] liked everything he's done.
I find it [C] particularly incredible.
I think he's like 10 or 11 records deep.
And this is unbelievably [G] new and different and amazing.
[F]
[Am]
[G]
[Dm] This is Richard [G] Thompson.
I don't know this particular record, but I'm a huge Richard and Linda Thompson [N] fan.
And I saw him play solo and it was really incredible.
He's one of the most [Dm] amazing guitar players I've [G] seen live.
[Eb]
Nitty Gritty Dirt Bands, Pull the [C] Circle, Be Unbroken.
[G]
I had this cassette.
[C] It was really early on and I [Bb] actually didn't [C] know what it all was.
But I think it's now that I know who all the people are that played on it,
I just find it amazing that they actually assembled that.
They gathered all their heroes and got them all to make a record [G] together and played with them.
I think it's [C] pretty amazing.
[F] [C]
And the main guy in this band is best friends with Steve Martin.
Fun fact.
This [Am] last summer I picked up a few Lee Scratch [F] Perry records and King Tebby records.
[N] And I really [Am] like their stuff.
So these are two that I don't have yet.
[F]
And [G] then to go along with that, good tour companion, I got the [Am] video The Upsetter to watch in the van.
Oh, [Em] nice.
And you shall be like a tree planted by the rivers [C] of water.
My gosh.
That bring forth fruit in its season.
Wow.
[Em] Its leaves also shall not wither.
[C] Wow.
And whatsoever it doeth shall prosper.
Hallelujah.
[Eb] I got this Jim [E] Ford record.
The musicianship is just phenomenal.
It's like Jim Kelton [Em] on drums.
[Bb] It's sort of [E] like a country, sort of soul funk record.
And it's pretty interesting stuff.
[Dbm] [A] [B]
[E] [N] Lower Dens, one of my favorite bands ever.
She is really an incredible singer, but I would call her more of a poet.
And she does these really amazing guitar scapes.
[Bm] It sounds like kind of garagey, kind of 60s, [D] but like psychedelic and current [A] and authentic.
[G]
[Bm]
[D]
[Am]
[Em] This [G] has been heavy, heavy rotation in the van.
[Bm] Yeah.
[C] I got this one.
These actually pair up well.
This is New Order's record, which I don't even know what the title is.
Power, Corruption, and Lies.
But Sharon plays Lower Dens all a lot in the van.
And she also plays this a lot.
[F] [C]
Sharon has really good taste in [Am] music, and [Eb] she played [Em] this one a lot.
And I [B] really loved it.
So [E] I'm going to get it in honor of Sharon.
Aw, Dad.
For you, for me.
[Db] She made me love. [Gb] Viva.
[Db]
[Eb] [Ab] [Bbm]
[Db] [N]
